Got caught in this last night along with kids, surf lifesavers, swimmers and lots of other surfers. No warning or advice to tell anyone in the water or on the beach (no mobile signal). Absolute disgrace and threat to public health dumping 💩 on people as they enjoyed the coast.

Playing children are noisy. Drowning children can’t make sound. Drowning starts above the water. It could happen right next to you. When in doubt, ask someone if they are ok. If they can’t/don’t answer, you may have less than 30 seconds to help them.

Not sure about anticipating a surge in numbers specifically, but we have early help workers based in our ED now to direct families to any financial help they can access. Anticipating huge numbers who are unable to adequately feed their children or heat their homes.
