Why do we use “person with a disability/disabled person” in our bio description on Twitter?
It’s simple - our members choose how they want to identify, and we as an organization don’t get to say what is right or wrong as an identity.
We’ve rented out a whole theatre for EVERYONE to join! Cineplex Cinema Markham, this Thursday November 30 at 6:30pm - a private screening of The #MARVELS in a #disability positive space! Buy tickets to support our #accessible programs 🙂!
.
Tickets: hohmarvels.eventbrite.ca 🎟
We’re so excited to welcome our members with disabilities and our community to join so that we can see @brielarson@TeyonahParris and @imanvellaniii on the big screen 🤩!

It would be nice if someone else other than disabled people would also advocate & fight for access, accommodation, rights, freedom & justice for disabled people.
Unfortunately, too often, disabled people have to wage this fight ourselves.
If we don’t do it, it will not get done.
Reminding my #ActuallyAutistic comrades that you aren’t broken, too much, loud, quiet, overly dramatic, or other words thrown at you by others.
People tell you those things because of their own inability and intolerance, their own lack of desire to understand you.
I see you.
Wow. This email from a UK hospital instructs healthcare workers not to test for COVID because it might keep them out of work for longer. What happened to "do no harm"?
I've no reason to doubt the provenance of this note from a Shropshire NHS Trust, but I genuinely wish it was fake.
Short-sighted doesn't even begin to describe my outrage at this callous approach to staff and patient safety.
Have we learned nothing?
I only hope it's not UK wide💔
Forced psych hospitalization has notoriously poor patient outcomes. However, these 5150 holds *do* allow politicians & cops to "clean up" cities & remove unhoused people without actually having to provide shelter, housing, or other essential resources.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that makes it easier for authorities to compel treatment for people with mental illness or addiction issues. apnews.com/article/californi…
In honour of #WorldMentalHealthDay, I thought I’d share with you some self-care ideas that I’ve collated specifically with autistic people in mind (many of which non-autistic people may find helpful as well).
What helps you when you’re feeling low? 💙⬇️
ALT There are three slides. Each slide is a pale blue/green and titled ‘Self-care ideas for auties’. Each slide has nine ideas, each of which has a corresponding illustration.
The ideas on the first slide are: stimmy music, read, stay in pyjamas, special interests, nature, create sensory calm, comfortable clothes, time with animals, noise-cancelling headphones.
A big part of executive dysfunction is not having control over what tasks our brains focus on or for how long.
Sometimes it's struggling to get started, sometimes it's not being able to stop, and other times it's not completing the task before our brains gives up on it
No one wants “a life on benefits.” No one “chooses” not to be able to work. People get sick. And then they are forced to live in grinding poverty whilst exhausted and in pain - and watch rich, healthy ministers knowingly lie about the easy life these scroungers have chosen.
🚝It’s been a very long time since I rode @SFBART and now that I live close to a station it has been liberating to get around the Bay Area without asking people to drive me around! Freedom, baby!
ALT Two photos side by side. On the left is an Asian American woman in a wheelchair with a tracheostomy at her throat attached to a ventilator. She is wearing red pants and an olive jacket. She is inside a train car. On the right is the same person on an outdoor platform with the sign West Oakland
it is very clear that the vast majority of people still genuinely think that adhd is just a minor annoyance and it’s like no my brain physically never stops, i am unable to do things, i am constantly overwhelmed, it’s not just “no big deal” !!!!!!
