Crazy to accuse a two-term mayor of Indianapolis of "spoiling" an election for statewide office. He's improving an election that was previously spoiled. If major parties want a two person race, they should run better candidates so others don't have to get involved.

Imagine needing to be liked or accepted by a group of people so bad that your willing to villainize someone like Greg Ballard to try to save someone like Diego Morales. Politics just brings out the absolute worst in people.

This attitude is horrifying. Politics is a team sport, sure. But your team is supposed to be your constituents - the voters you represent - not devotion to a political party. Party loyalty tests are the bane of modern politics.

You were planning to ditch your party instead of competing in its primary? Politics is a team sport. Obviously you're going to upset your team if you abandon them and play by yourself. Why would you expect a different reaction? "Holier than thou"

Interestingly, Republicans are mad at former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard because he's running as an independent candidate for Indiana Secretary of State. This is what happened to me in 2015: Democrats were upset with me when I almost ran for mayor of Indianapolis as an independent. They argued that I would draw too many Democratic votes and let a Republican win the mayor's race. Both parties tend to ignore the dissatisfaction many of us feel about the current direction of our party. There are plenty of centrists and moderates in both the Democratic and Republican parties who are uncomfortable with their extreme policies or the perception that an elected official is corrupt. Yet, these parties push us to accept their candidates, even when those candidates don't align with our values or views. I believe Americans deserve better. Both parties have the right to field far-left or far-right candidates, but voters shouldn't be forced to pick the lesser of two undesirable choices. Perhaps it’s time to create an independent party that truly represents the values and views of millions of centrist, moderate, and independent voters in America. Just food for thought.
Opinion: Indiana Republicans are mad that Greg Ballard is running for secretary of state. They created this problem. indystar.com/story/opinion/c…

This @GregforIndiana campaign is a model for the country: a well respected, integral leader running to serve and running to open up ballot access to Hoosiers locally. Love it.
Former GOP Mayor Greg Ballard, as an independent? The field for Indiana’s secretary of state election just went from fascinating to epic. Via statehouse insider ⁦@kayla_dwyer17indystar.com/story/news/poli…

Getting on the ballot in Indiana requires an absurd number of petition signatures, but independents manage to run and win in the state - they win more than they lose, actually. If Ballard earns just 2% of the vote, he earns them a ballot line, and the floodgates open. Genius.

The President of the United States is withholding food for 41,700,000 Americans, including 16,300,000 children, until he gets his way. It's likely to be weeks. Maybe months. If a parent withheld food from a single child for even a day, their neighbors would call CPS.

This initiative is pretty cool. I’m more and more of the opinion that local, independent efforts know what’s best for local communities.

Murdering guys we don't like is still murder. I feel like we've been on the same page about that for most of civilization.

The minute you believe the rule of law doesn’t apply is the minute our country collapses. I’m pretty sure this professor at Columbia knows this, which makes celebrating a straight-up murder even more disgusting.
Today, we mourn the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, gunned down.... wait, I'm sorry - today we mourn the deaths of the 68,000 Americans who needlessly die each year so that insurance company execs like Brian Thompson can become multimillionaires.

Moral confusion on this topic is incoherent & unacceptable. You don't have to like an insurance company to think murdering their CEO is remotely acceptable. People do bad and morally ambiguous shit. We all agreed that killing them is not a solution a LONG time ago.

For everyone who spent the last decade claiming now “isn’t the time” for democracy reform and independent political movements, uh… your way didn’t work. We’ll drive for a while, thanks.

To all the Dem leaders and strategists openly criticizing the party now, after the predictable and avoidable second loss to Trump — Where were you in January when it mattered? This post-election pile-on is just a weak attempt to hide your cowardice.

We can't fix millions of years of evolutionary biology. We *can* fix the inclusiveness of our electoral system, our incentives, our media, and our desire to build a real, unifying vision for America.

I blame the voters thinking processes. How do we fix that?
