“My mum could not be here either for a visa issue, and the money we had to pay for it.” This is genuinely sad. What FIFA and the U.S. have done in this WC should not be brushed off as just another tournament controversy. A historic disgrace.
40-year-old MOTM Cape Verde GK Vozinha in the mixed zone. “I cried because I grew up with my grandparents and they could not be there. They passed away. My mum could not be here either for a Visa issue, and the money we had to pay for it. We did not manage to do this in time”

Iran's National team footballer Ramin Rezaeian hit back strongly at a reporter attempting to turn the interview political: "We're here for football. What happens inside Iran is our issue, and we'll deal with it. It's not for outsiders to interfere with."

Iran v. New Zealand ended around 8pm here in Los Angeles. At 10:07pm, Iran players were on a bus bound for the airport, where they'd fly back to Tijuana. World Cup organizers wouldn't let them stay and recover. “Everything is like a disaster for us," Mehdi Taremi said.

The US tried to destroy this team. It put them in the worst situation, refusing visas, making them travel the day before every game. But the US failed and Iran won. They just scored the only goal I really care about - during the first & therefore hardest game. I’m dying 😭

Iran came from behind twice to draw 2-2 against New Zealand. To some people, it’s just a draw. But after everything this team has been through, it felt like a victory. Traveling from Mexico to the USA just to play, then having to make the long trip back home. Carrying the weight of politics, pressure, and years of tension with the USA, yet still finding a way to focus on football. They went behind once and fought back. They went behind again and fought back again. That is the spirit of this Iran team. Tonight, Iran didn’t just earn a point. They earned respect. 🇮🇷❤️

Did you know that the US government spent more than thirty billion dollars so that this flag wouldn't be in the middle of the stadium today?

These grifters will tell you people went to boo the team. I’ve never seen a stadium this loud in support of Team Melli outside Iran. Such losers trying to turn everything into an agenda.

Good game. Really proud of how Iran played. And just so you know — California, especially L.A., has the biggest Iranian‑American community outside Iran.
