Ethical challenges of #ECMO? 4️⃣ four domains: ⚖️ equitable ECMO candidacy decisions 🕯️ integration of palliative care and clinical ethics ⛔️ preservation of patient autonomy when institutional or benchmarking pressures influence care 🚧 responding to requests to continue ECMO when there is no exit strategy Ethical tension of #ECLS may generate moral distress for clinicians, patients, and families: here recommendations to emphasize transparent, team-based decisions, early involvement of ethics and palliative care, and consistent processes for ongoing review of candidacy and continuation of ECMO. @asaiojournal 🔗 bit.ly/4cSrUZd

#AortaDelphia brought 250 of us together in support of @JohnRitterFdn, uniting national leaders and the Penn Aorta Center community around advancing aortic care and raw patient perspectives. What hit hardest? The aorta never stands still and the science and therapies reshaping our field are advancing at breakneck speed. New devices, imaging breakthroughs, and targeted therapies are redefining what’s possible faster than ever. Moments like this ignite the urgency we need to keep pushing boundaries and delivering better outcomes for every patient.
Grateful to have welcomed 250 attendees in support of the @JohnRitterFdn at #AortaDelphia last week. @NimeshDesaiMD and Grace Wang, MD, convened national leaders and the Penn Aorta Center community to advance aortic care and share impactful patient perspectives.

#ECMO in patients with traumatic brain injury and/or requiring neurosurgery: outcomes, complications & management considerations 🧠 TBI should not be considered an absolute contraindication: #ECLS can be safely utilized. Successful outcomes relied on collaborative efforts minimally intensive anticoagulation. A subset of patients developed ICH on ECMO (TBI/not), requiring neurosurgical interventions: key factors affecting prognosis included ICH size, timing of intervention, careful adjustment of anticoagulation. Discontinuing ECMO prior to intervention may be advantageous if clinically feasible. #FOAMcc #FOAMecmo @NeurocritCareJ 🔓 rdcu.be/fd9n9
