Dr Dinesh Kumar Chauhan (
@dkchauhan), Head – Agribusiness Innovation and Nutrition, ICRISAT, joined the session on Crop Diversification & Market Integration, sharing insights on strengthening value chains, promoting entrepreneurship, supporting farmer collectives, and creating market-led opportunities that make crop diversification economically viable for smallholder farmers.
Discussions highlighted the need to transition from water-intensive monocultures to diversified, climate-smart farming systems, including agroforestry, horticulture, millets, pulses, and oilseeds.
The session also emphasized stronger market linkages, value addition, private sector participation, enabling policies, and landscape-level approaches to build resilient agricultural systems and support year-round farmer incomes.
