Vaccinated cancer pts had higher risk of breakthrough COVID-19 infection & poor outcomes incl. hospitalization & death, compared to controls without cancer, especially for those w/hematologic cancer or on active chemo. Third vaccine dose reduced this risk. ja.ma/3GqObhN

I'm thrilled and thankful for the support from #Royal_College for this project! My goal is to make learning environments more just & equitable for trainees at a structural level, which will hopefully contribute downstream to better patient care
Replying to @Royal_College
Bravo to Justin Lam, FRCPC at @thewilsoncentre, one of our 2022 recipients of the Robert Maudsley Fellowship for Studies in Medical Education. He’ll be exploring discrimination in medical learning environments: ow.ly/jBhP50IkQr0 #MedEd @jthlam @thorsley_handle 3/4

IMO we have reached the point in Ontario when pub hlth cannot meaningfully contact trace all positive cases - due to testing delays and overwhelming numbers. But that doesn't mean contact tracing has to stop. It's time to empower each other.

It is worth mentioning from an MD standpoint, the academic hospitals really run on the strength of our residents. And the holidays are always a vulnerable time as we operate with half of our usual complement as everyone is given well-deserved, much needed time off.

I decided not to live away from my family while working on the inpatient wards because it appears that #COVID19 medicine is going to be here for a while. It’s part of my cognitive shift — a move from avoiding the pandemic to living with it.

Reality for HCPs caring for pts with covid who have small children: No school, (sometimes both) parents working in hospital, grandparents need to be off limits, emergency nanny quit because of our work. It's a high price being paid not only by HCPs, but our kids too

Motherhood during residency is stressful enough without having to wander the hospital hallways looking for a private room to pump or worry that a colleague has inadvertently drunk or disposed of your breast milk from the communal fridge. Happy to see this call to action!

1/ Why does normal saline (NS) contain 154 mEq of sodium per liter if a normal serum sodium is ~140 mEq/L? This has bugged me for YEARS. I’ll do my best to explain a potential reason below. As always, I’d love to hear from others, either confirming or refuting what follows…

Good framework to understand readmissions #meded x.com/medicalaxioms/status/9…

Five themes contributing to readmission: (1) therapeutic misalignment; (2) accountability; (3) social fragility; (4) access failures; and (5) disease behavior. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2878…
