So which South African works enter the public domain? Wish there was a similar list. Is this something the @NLSA1 could produce?
When the clock strikes midnight on January 1, creative works from 1930 & sound recordings from 1925 will enter the public domain in the US, like: 💄 Dizzy Dishes, the first appearance of Betty Boop 🔍 The first 4 Nancy Drew novels 🚂 The Little Engine That Could 🤡 Animal Crackers 🎩 Morocco 🍑 Georgia on My Mind and many more! 🧵👇

This in the midst of the National Library Board of SA appointing a non-librarian as the primo librarian (National Librarian) in SA (oh sorry he may have taken a book out of the library once - and that qualifies him to be lead the library sector in SA) Talk to @LIASANews

Librarians in South Africa are REALLY angry about this. Kick in the teeth for the profession. Also affects the archives and records management.
Replying to @SAfmRadio
@SAfmRadio @dailymaverick Please follow up with the National Library about the non-librarian as South Africa's National Librarian. None of the National Library Board have any library experience. Please talk to Pres Charlie Molepo at @LIASANews

"Open access improves the dissemination of science: Insights from @Wikipedia" Key result: Wikipedia increasingly relies on OA articles. Relatedly, OA articles have a higher likelihood of being cited in Wikipedia. The effect is particularly strong for highly cited or newly published articles. @cervisiarius @WikiResearch #OA #OpenAccess #OpenScience link.springer.com/article/10…

Fair use, enjoyed by at least a dozen countries, is not 'piracy glorified'. In fact it has 4 criteria that determine what can or cannot be copied. Those countries can use our material under fair use, but we can't do similar acts using SA or their copyright works. That is not fair!
