5) Training yourself to stop reacting can (despite my suspicions to the contrary) help in handling pain. By focusing my awareness on the searing pain that I felt but in a neutral, detached way, I was able to wedge a corridor of relief between the pain & me for the first time.

@Giannis_An34 is a basketball superstar After two disappointing playoffs, he said 'I don't know if this year is going to be different' Michael Jordan probably wouldn't say that, but it's still inspirational Here's how mindfulness helped Giannis win an elusive NBA championship
" I don't know if this year is going to be different. I’m not gonna lie to you." - Giannis Antetokounmpo (h/t @AhnFireDigital )

(4/9) When asked about his mentality going into Game 3, Giannis responded: 'I don't get too high, I don't get too low' It's easy to become overwhelmed by emotions, especially in sports Mindfulness enables equanimity by not feeling excessively attached to highs and lows

(8/9) Giannis slammed home a clutch alley-oop in Game 5 In Game 6 to win the NBA Finals, he channeled mindfulness in one of the most dominant playoff stat lines 50 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks Full investment in the present gives you a better chance of winning in the future
On this day one year ago, Jrue Holiday strips the ball & lobs it up to Giannis Antetokounmpo for the game-sealing alley-oop in Game 5 of the 2021 NBA Finals! The Bucks would take a 3-2 series lead and went on to win the championship in 6 games 🏆

“Self-talk is producing anxiety...either you can do something about it in the moment or you can’t” Thoughts can be productive, but incessant overthinking about the past (what could have been) or the future (how long will this last) overwhelms us in the present

(7/7) Meditation develops the key muscles to reduce mind wandering We can enter a flow state - fully immersed in the present moment or task from a state of freedom, without being held back by mental baggage of the past or future This ability has extensive value for anyone

There is a “frame rate change in the data stream” Typically mind wandering occupies a significant amount of our brain's activity Meditation narrows our attention to the present moment which expands our awareness of different data, such as physical and mental sensations
