Well done matt and team. Upfront fee for debt relief was always a nonsense, preventing people from moving forward with their lives.
Really pleased the chancellor has backed @CitizensAdvice calls to scrap the £90 fee for Debt Relief Orders in today's budget. Our report 'Priced out of debt relief' last year set out why this fee is such a problem tinyurl.com/5n6tr7xa

There is an urgent need for more joined-up #MentalHealth support and money advice. Our latest research shows that providing money advice alongside NHS Talking Therapies could help an extra 27,000 people recover from mental health problems each year: bit.ly/3rDNPPK 2/2

The latest @CitizensAdvice data shows that there’s a growing eviction crisis in the private rented sector. In London and the South East we helped record numbers of private renters with eviction issues last month - but this is affecting all parts of the country. 🧵

If someone is drowning, they shouldn’t have to pay to be saved. Yet, that is essentially what people in #problemdebt are facing - they have to pay, upfront, for debt relief. This is a big problem - but it could be easily fixed 🧵 (1/11)

In response to this growing need, the product team @CitizensAdvice have developed this energy cost calculator for appliances - we’re keen for your feedback 💡 citizensadvice.org.uk/consum…
How to calculate energy cost of an appliance 1. Find its wattage 2. Know 1000W is a Kilowatt (kW) 3. You pay roughly 34p per kW per hour So 100W (a tenth of a kW) appliance on for two hours is 3.4p an hour x 2 = 6.8p

Intervention by Ofgem today means its far more likely consumers can get the support that is set out in the rulebook - now we need to see minds focused on standards above minimal standards.🧵

This is a tacit acknowledgement from DWP that benefits are set too low for ppl to afford the energy they need. While it prevents benefits being automatically wiped out by deductions, it does so at the risk of building up debt and relies on prices falling which may not happen 1/4
DWP halts energy providers making new or increased requests for benefit money to be diverted to them to pay fuel bills. The ban will last a year.

However, there are statistics showing entitlement to different elements of UC (over and above the Standard Allowance). 67% of claims are getting some support with their housing, but just 2.5% (!) getting help with childcare costs (when 47% have children!)
