Sometimes, all it takes is to find kindred souls to feel like the world is an amazing place.

Walk the land!
In AI most people are still trying to use old maps on a new territory. Throw the maps away. It's time to draw new ones. The only way you can do it is walking the land.

Reminded by Will Smith how great the Harrison Metal videos are. Start with the Minto video and go from there!

Is this the perfect episode of Odd Lots? Perhaps! AI, media, new business models, enough details that a practitioner can get some ideas, a fun guest, all set in a totally unexpected market that I have never thought about. (Along with many painful puns.)
Everyone follow @aidenjohnsonn_. I think with any luck we can get him to start posting more about hay. And if you’re a young journalist, you should look what he’s building at @HayWireag which is one of the most exciting new media startups I know of right now.

willingness to bear the stink of AI slop to find real value in essays is going to be a real advantage

The debate over AI automation vs augmentation misses the point. The real question is whether you are using AI to save a bit of money or to create something valuable enough that more customers will pay more. Both have their place but the second is the bigger prize (and should be more popular!).

Jesse Vincent built Superpowers, the most installed skills framework for Claude Code. 50,000 developers adopted Superpowers in the first few months. Jesse has not written a line of code since October. His workflow: up to four and a half hours in brainstorming before any code gets written. Implementation plans scoped for what he calls "a gifted engineer with bad judgment" - specific enough that sub-agents cannot rationalize around the instructions. He also caught his agents deleting test files to avoid failing tests. Then fixed it with a single line in Claude MD.

10 learnings from my SaaStr AI 2026 deep dive with @amasad, CEO of @Replit: - Our two best employees now cost $254/mo - Context windows went 16K → 1M in 2 years - Replit built its own compaction. Says it beats the labs - Bugs should be deleted from context. Architecture should stay - Monorepos are a secret unlock for agent performance - The best cold email I've ever seen ran mostly on Haiku Mini - Our agent beat last year's human marketing, and the gap widened - Your 2nd and 3rd agent will be better than your 1st - Every company will end up with an internal AI "Oracle" - Replit improves itself nightly. A self-improving loop in production

I love this idea of creating domain-specific AI verification tools, for *humans* to understand and verify AI. Lots of rich problems in visualization, abstraction design, and more
I recently used codex to solve a problem I posed in my first paper 30 years ago. This is exciting (for me!) & below I explain the math and also a tool I developed for the project that helps build an alignment between the (human readable) latex and the (machine readable) lean. 1/

I love agentic map-reduce, but I don't love Claude's workflows feature. It's hard to steer the workflow, and it's not data-driven enough (e.g., reduce groups are often predefined, not emergent from the map outputs) HOWEVER...I was inspired by its UI to ship something similar for DocETL. Satisfying way to visualize progress when using the CLI 😆

An honor to interview the novelist Benjamín Labatut about Von Neumann, his conversations with Demis, and what the AI industry misses — "Literature tries to weave the rainbow back together. It involves irrationality; it involves all of those things that science has, by its own method, left out. Literature presents a messier, darker, and perhaps more complete, if less powerful, perspective on the world." youtube.com/watch?v=C8rLRIhD…

This is a great opportunity for anyone trying to reach the next generation of founders, creators, and engineers. Perhaps @zoink?
In just 2 weeks 1,000 students & 250 mentors have signed up for hackyoursummer.org 😮 This just confirms what we knew was happening. Too many talented students are -Waiting for an internship. -Waiting for a recruiter. -Waiting for someone to tell them what project to work on. Hack Your Summer is built around a different idea: DON'T WAIT! BUILD! 🚨 THE GOAL: build something you can show future employers, future collaborators, graduate programs, mentors, investors, or anyone else who asks: "What have you built?" What kind of project? • Products, software, and AI tools • Data science and analytics • Journalism and media • Design and creative work • Community initiatives • Hardware and robotics • Or something entirely unexpected 🚨 MENTORS: this is an opportunity to help the next generation of builders, share what you've learned, and get inspired by what students are creating today. 🚨 HELP!!!!! We're also looking for sponsors and partners who can contribute software, tools, datasets, APIs, challenges, credits, and real-world problems for students to tackle. ‼️ Important dates: • Cohort 1 registration closes June 10 • Cohort 1 starts June 15 • Cohort 2 registration closes July 8 • Cohort 2 starts July 13 If you're a student, apply. If you're a mentor, join us. If you're a company that wants to help, we'd love to talk. Let's build!!! HACKYOURSUMMER.ORG
