A common failure mode for companies is the belief that hiring solves all problems.
- A function isn’t great? Need to hire a new exec!
- Some need is going unmet? Need to hire a specialist!
- Numbers aren’t good? Hire more people!
Everyone pausing hiring might be a good reset.
Community A beats the virus through mass testing, isolation, culture, and borders.
Community B takes its losses but develops herd immunity.
B is more robust to future outbreaks of the same or similar viruses.
A is more robust to completely novel pathogens and to bioweapons.
