Merkel cell carcinoma log, day #361
@Cigna has been giving my oncology team at
@DanaFarber fits, refusing to cover my fourth Merkel cell carcinoma scan, marking the one-year anniversary of treatment. The scan is absolutely essential, as I've been unable - so far - to get a ctDNA test set up with the scanty tumor tissue available from my original biopsy. (I asked if I needed another biopsy in the beginning, but, hey, didn't happen.) So there's only one radar on recurrence now. Which is the big, big thing for
@cancer patients responding (partial remission) to frontline treatment. Evidently, the fourth scan doesn't fit their guidelines, but it's SOP in Merkel cell, when you'd like to take another shot at it if/when frontline fails. So why don't you buy a clue, Cigna, and do what's right here. For all the millions of Americans with cancer who deal with private insurance.
