DOJ says Gavin Newsom wasn't implicated.
So why, a year later, are investigators reportedly interviewing family friends, former staff, examining his wife's nonprofits, and widening the circle even further?
That's the question.
Because when the original case produces no evidence against the politician everyone expected to be the target, but the investigation keeps expanding anyway, critics start calling it what it looks like:
A fishing expedition.
Maybe DOJ has more evidence.
If so, show it.
If not, "we're still looking" isn't a theory of crime.
