The @DetroitCityFC season starts this week, so it’s time for my annual preemptive apology to anyone who follows me on Twitter for economic development policy or other substantive stuff and instead gets a dose of American minor-league soccer supporter culture. #DCTID

These Fox analysts wondering how the 90 degree heat in Philadelphia will affect players from sub-Saharan Africa and a country literally named after the Equator.

BUT LOOK AT ALL THE ECONOMIC IMPACT!
It’s a disgrace to the sport that this piece of shit is hosting the World Cup final over the Azteca

In May the Tigers had a .309 team SLG, only 4 teams in the last decade have had a worse calendar month. In June the Tigers have a .580 team SLG, which would be the highest single-month SLG by any team since 1930.

Hear me out: World Cup match as a night game in Baton Rouge. 10% of tickets reserved for local fans and the LSU band. “Neck” is the goal song for both teams.
This is the most “The European mind can’t comprehend this” moment of my life. One of my friends said, “Punch me five times tomorrow and I’ll still think this isn’t real.”

So, the solution to socialism is more socialism. I swear, sports just make people stupid.
Pritzer should strip the team from the McCaskey family and give every Chicago resident a stake.

A Bears stadium in Indiana would be built, in part, by making every restaurant meal in 917 square miles of northwest Indiana cost more for residents and visitors alike.

We’ve known that long-forgotten has-been action movie star Steven Seagal has cheerfully embraced his role as a mascot for Vladimir Putin’s regime; what you may not have known is that there’s an excellent chance you’re now in better shape than Seagal is. Apparently, the only thing that’s under siege these days is a buffet table.

How about the Chiefs pay for it?
Who should pay for the new Kansas City Chiefs stadium? Efforts to protect local revenue are ruffling feathers at the Kansas Statehouse. buff.ly/4ppgl5M

In a couple of years, Bedrock will want subsidies to fix up buildings that were emptied to fill the RenCen. Dan Gilbert's plans to rearrange downtown Detroit to his taxpayer-subsidized liking have a real "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly" vibe to them.

Whether you support, oppose or are neutral on data centers, we should ALL be able to agree that incredibly wealthy AI companies shouldn't be getting taxpayer-funded subsidies to build them in Michigan or anywhere else.

Possibly the greatest parenting success my wife and I can claim is that we raised a son who perfectly complements us in bar trivia, turning the three of us into an unstoppable juggernaut that's won three straight trivia nights against 15-20 other teams.

It is simply untrue that stadiums generate "a massive amount of economic activity." NFL teams host only as many customers in a year as an average-sized American supermarket does (~700,000). In reality, stadiums spend almost their entire lives dark, empty & silent.
So we just lost the Chicago Bears over real estate taxes that the Bears have never paid in the history of the team. The local boards in Arlington Heights - who would’ve received those taxes - wanted to do the deal. Every team in the NFL gets tax breaks for a reason … these teams can go anywhere and they generate a massive amount of economic activity wherever they go. The Bears will be moving to Indiana for one reason - Illinois is completely and wholly incompetent. The mere fact that - after all these years - they were scrambling at midnight to figure something out only highlights the point. Democrats have cratered Illinois and nothing here is getting fixed without sweeping political change. Vote red!
