The abortion Craig and I had 22 years ago allowed us the time to become sober - and then to create careers and a healthy family. Our abortion saved our lives.

1/ Every year, I give a talk that wipes me out-emotionally & mentally. But it’s an impt talk to give: about the experience of women in medicine, academics, STEM. It’s hard because it hits home; & because I answer any question & tell the truth. Here are some facts; more in thread

Can I be honest? I’ve never really liked the phrase “starting a family” in reference to pregnancy. It implies a limited path to family. Starting a family can also be fostering or adopting children, choosing not to have bio children or being unable to, and the family we choose.

With new votes joining the tally, we are on a strong path. But even while we wait for more, let’s celebrate the extraordinary organizers, volunteers, canvassers & tireless groups that haven’t stopped going since Nov. Across our state, we roared. A few miles to go...but well done!

I’ve given half my life to medicine. And medicine wouldn’t give my husband a chest x-ray. Some kids stole a truck yesterday. And they almost stole my husband’s life alongside it. (1)

I appreciate this tweet. Our humanity, which is deeply rooted in connection with others, is so threatened by the pandemic. Nice reminder of how we can do small things to support each other.
Check-in with your friends this week. Even if you have a “distant friend” whom you only talk to a couple of times a year, just text them out of the blue. They’ll love that you thought of them and will be appreciative of your message. Here are 6 suggestions to get started.

Agreed
I hope I’m not in the minority here when I say that physicians should be elevating and respecting our close colleagues who we work shoulder to shoulder with every day.

This past week I listened to a lecture by the amazing @karimader where I was introduced to the term psychological safety and the importance of creating an environment of comfortable learning in the medical space. (Thread 1/8)
