Most of our education debates circle around curriculum. We argue over books, policies, and ideology. The deeper question concerns jurisdiction. Who holds primary responsibility before God for the moral and intellectual formation of children? The household? The church? The state? Scripture speaks clearly about spheres of authority. When those boundaries shift, formation follows the sphere with the most reach. I am interested in thoughtful engagement here, especially from those who have studied this historically or theologically. (2.26)

Started the evening wind-down with npm error EACCES. Ended it with Hermes on my Mac, talking to Hermes on my NUC, both flexing Claude Code for complex coding jobs, and all installed models running a meeting without me. I just wanted the installer to finish. Now I have a small distributed civilization in my home, three AIs casually delegating tasks to each other (probably more now!), and apparently I'm the bottleneck. 🤣 Shall we play a game?

Today is the start of a very important day in the AI world... the trial between Elon and Sam/OpenAI begins today in Oakland Federal Court. The jury selection is happening right now in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and opening arguments are expected Tuesday. The civil jury trial is projected to last 2-4 weeks, with Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers making the final call. So let me tell you why this fight all came about. 1/ In 2015 Elon co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and others as a nonprofit to develop artificial general intelligence safely and openly for the benefit of all humanity... this was supposed to NOT be for profit or for closed corporate control. Elon was a major early funder, contributing around $38-44 million (~60% of early seed funding) plus resources like compute and recruiting. 2/ Then, Elon left the board in 2018 over disagreements for the direction of the company and Microsoft’s growing role of the company. 3/ Later, OpenAI took billions from Microsoft, restructured with a for-profit arm, initially “capped profit,” now more commercial... went closed-source in practice, and exploded in value with ChatGPT. FYI, the current valuation of OpenAI now sits at ~$852 billion and the company recently completed restructuring with a for-profit entity reporting into a nonprofit foundation. Now, with the trial, Elon is saying Altman, Brockman, and OpenAI breached the founding charitable trust and agreement by turning it into a “wealth machine” that prioritizes profits and insiders over the original mission. He claims they deceived him about their plans... This lawsuit was originally filed in November 2024, was withdrawn, and then revived in early 2026. And just this Friday, April 24, Elon voluntarily dropped the fraud claims to “streamline” the case and keep the jury focused on the mission issue... proceeding on breach of charitable trust and unjust enrichment. This is what Elon is looking to get back from Sam and OpenAI: a/ substantial damages, with stakes in the $100B range, with many reports saying it's in the range of ~$134B and the winnings will be given to the nonprofit/charity arm and will NOT benefit Elon personally b/ possible unwinding/restructuring to restore the original nonprofit mission c/ leadership changes (e.g., getting rid of Altman/Brockman from key roles). On the other side, OpenAI is claiming: a/ Elon knew about and once supported commercialization steps, saying he even explored merging with Tesla or gaining control himself b/ OpenAI calls the suit competitive sabotage from rival Elon's company xAI and says this is driven by jealousy over OpenAI’s success This is SUCH an important trial in the world of AI... people may not fully understand. The reason is bc Elon has repeatedly warned that profit-driven, closed-source AGI is very dangerous. This is his chance to enforce the original “benefit humanity” mission he helped create and walked away from in 2018. A big win will hurt OpenAI’s valuation, upcoming IPO plans, Microsoft partnership, and market dominance/customer perspective of the company... and this will also force real changes in how the world’s leading AI lab operates, influencing the entire AI race and future regulations. For me, Sam Altman straight up CANNOT be trusted with the future of AGI, and this trial proves why Elon was right to fight it. This is the same guy who got fired by his own board in 2023 for not being “consistently candid,” then crawled back in and turned the nonprofit “open for humanity” promise into a closed-source, Microsoft-bankrolled profit machine worth hundreds of billions. Elon was the one who put up the early cash and vision to keep AI safe and beneficial for all of us... not to create a trillion-dollar insider club. If Altman gets away with rewriting the rules after the fact, it sets a dangerous precedent that mission-driven tech is just marketing fluff. I believe Elon isn’t doing this for ego or rivalry... he’s really doing it bc someone has to hold the line before profit-over-people AGI becomes unstoppable. This one’s personal for the man who actually wants to understand the universe instead of just cashing in on it. Humanity needs Elon to win. And that's who I'm rooting for!

64% of pastors use AI to write sermons. 73% of churches have no policy governing it. The machine is already in the church. I built a publication to help pastors think through what faithful ministry looks like in this moment. First essay is live: churchinthemachine.substack.…

The church speaks much about unity, but Scripture defines unity through truth, shared confession, and growth in the knowledge of Christ. Where doctrine is left untested, a false peace can remain in place while truth is neglected and error is allowed to stand. When correction is treated as a threat, the church becomes weaker in discernment and less willing to submit everything to the Word of God. Christ did not leave His church without a way to guard her. He gave His Word, and He commands His people to test what is taught. Today I address why testing, correction, and doctrinal clarity belong to the ordinary life of the church and why false unity has done real harm. Read here: kenduffy.net/p/false-unity-a…

Truth without love becomes harshness because it speaks what is right without regard for the person, pressing doctrine in a way that wounds rather than restores. Love without truth becomes compromise because it seeks peace or comfort at the expense of what God has actually said, leaving people affirmed in error rather than called to repentance. Scripture holds these together, commanding a man to speak what is true while doing so with patience, restraint, and genuine care for the soul before him. This is why Paul instructs the church to speak the truth in love, since truth governs the content and love governs the manner, and both are required for faithfulness. (1.7)

The noise is loud right now. Every headline demands a reaction. Every voice insists that something is unraveling. But the people of God are not left to read the times through fear or confusion. The Lord reigns. He has not stepped away from His creation. He has not lost control of the nations. He has not handed history over to chaos. Scripture declares that He works all things according to the counsel of His will, and that includes the very moment we are living in right now. Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father, not waiting to receive authority, but exercising it. Kings rise and fall under His hand. Nations are directed by His decree. Even what appears disordered to us is not outside His wisdom. So do not let your heart be shaped by the unrest of the world. Let it be shaped by the Word of God. Return to what is steady. Open the Scriptures. Pray with clarity and confidence. Lead your home with peace. Gather with the saints and worship with reverence. The same God who governs the nations also governs your life with purpose and care. The kingdom of Christ is not threatened. Those who belong to Him are called to stand firm, to think clearly, and to live in a way that reflects the unshakable rule of their King.

Before God, every life is weighed. Every word is heard. Every hidden motive is known. Kingdoms rise and fall under His providence, but Christ reigns unchanged. This day is given to draw our hearts upward again. Lay aside the noise of the week. Receive the mercy that has been shown to you in Christ. Order your life under His Word. The One who holds the universe together by His power also calls His people to worship. Blessed are those who gather before Him with reverence and joy, for their hope does not rest in the passing things of this age, but in the eternal kingdom of our Lord.

When a nation goes to war, what standard governs that decision? Strategy. Security. Interests are weighed. But Scripture calls the magistrate a minister of God who bears the sword as an avenger against evil. That language is judicial, not imperial. If war is a form of public justice, then it must answer the same questions any act of judgment must answer. Was there real wrongdoing? Is the cause just? Is the response proportionate? Has authority been exercised lawfully and with restraint? There is guilt in aggressive bloodshed. There is also guilt in refusing to defend the innocent. Both stand before Christ. How do we ensure that speed, pride, or fear do not replace righteousness when the sword is drawn? (2.28)

War is never morally neutral. Scripture calls the magistrate a minister of God who bears the sword as an avenger against evil (Romans 13:4 LSB). That means war cannot be reduced to strategy, image, or national preference. It is judicial force exercised under delegated authority, and it answers to Christ. Both unjust aggression and cowardly refusal to defend carry guilt before God. Nations are accountable. I wrote this War Journal to frame war as a category of public justice under Christ’s crown. We are living in a time where war, regime collapse, and calls for uprising are real time appeals we can read with our own eyes. We have direct access to the words, motives, and arguments shaping history as it unfolds. These moments require patience, discernment, and a willingness to gather facts before forming conclusions. Scripture warns against answering a matter before hearing it fully. In an age of instant opinion, restraint is wisdom. War involves judgment, blood, and the weight of human souls. Before we cheer, condemn, or align ourselves, we should slow down, pray, and think. History is moving quickly. Our response should not be careless.

This is not a contest between tech executives and defense officials. It is a question of who answers to God. Lethal force is a moral act that always requires accountable human judgment before God. The state bears the sword as God’s servant, and that sword must never be handed to an algorithm, whether directly through autonomous weapons or indirectly through systems that pressure commanders into machine speed decisions. No decision to take life may be delegated beyond accountable human judgment. The current dispute between Anthropic and the Department of Defense reveals what is at stake in our moment. The Pentagon reportedly wants AI available for “all lawful purposes,” while Anthropic is drawing lines against mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous lethal systems. We need hard and honest inquiry. We need Christian men who fear God to exhort the administration to preserve human accountability, restrain surveillance that treats citizens as targets, and ensure that war remains governed by justice rather than accelerated by machines. Christ will judge rulers. He will judge their wars. He will judge the tools they chose, and the men who hid behind them.

Most debates about education focus on curriculum. The deeper issue concerns jurisdiction. Scripture assigns the formation of children first to parents and situates that responsibility within covenant life. The church guards and teaches the truth. The magistrate restrains injustice. When those spheres blur, formation follows institutional reach rather than covenantal duty. The shift in American education involved a transfer of formative authority. That transfer reshaped how the next generation is shaped. kenduffy.net/p/dominion-and-…

Protecting women and children from being trafficked for sexual slavery is not political – it is BIBLICAL. Standing guard over our children rather than letting them be taught perverse sexual practices or sharing a locker room with someone of the opposite sex is not political – it is BIBLICAL.
