Lesson observation benefits the observer more than the observed. And those who observe most teach least.
If we want observation to improve teaching, we should be willing to model, to be watched, and to share the risk.
Professional trust is built through reciprocity, not scrutiny alone.

It was such an honour to meet @NickGibbUK today at the #SoLA conference today. As the Minister for Education, he did outstanding work shifting England to the explicit teaching of phonics, maths and knowledge rich curriculum. He now works to improve education around the world.

Teachers don’t improve in the abstract. They improve, or fail to, in the schools they work in.
If we want better teaching, we need better school cultures: ordered, trusting, developmental, and led by principals who know how to make improvement possible.
Better schools = better teachers
