Meet Velu. He and his team have just introduced the world’s first suspension featuring DaVinci damping technology in the new Mahindra XUV 7XO As you can see, he can’t conceal his excitement to demonstrate it personally. Velu, or "Velu Guru” as we affectionately call him, started his journey in a government school in Namakkal, TN, before graduating from Anna University with a B.Tech in Automotive Engineering. He joined us as a Junior Engineer and rose through the ranks to become Head of Technology & Product Development. Last year, he was appointed President of our Automotive Business. There are thousands more at Mahindra Research Valley & in our entire R&D team cast from the same mould. Homegrown engineers who are: Hungry to learn Hungry to lead Hungry to take on the world’s best. India is a talent factory. Which is why, in 1991, when global consultants suggested we "throw in the towel" as the economy opened up and global competitors were expected to write our obituary, we chose not to listen. We’re still here. We’re still learning. And we’re still driven to serve you with world-class technology. There’s much more to come… Velu and our Automotive Team are not just my #MondayMotivation but my constant inspiration

Which chapter from “Autobiography of a Yogi” do you find most inspiring, and why? Yogananda’s autobiography, first published more than 75 years ago, continues to serve as true ambassador of India’s timeless science of yoga for millions of seekers worldwide. #Yogananda

Someone told me a long time ago that Marketing was Evil. I was just out of B School with a Marketing specialisation and bristled at the statement. While any sweeping statement is not right, there is merit when it comes to packaged foods instagram.com/satvicmovement…

Its indeed an embarrassment. I think quick money and an intense sense of grabbing resources built in from a young age have made many rich Indians this way. At buffets you will see them take say 15 “phulkas” for others and make those in line wait for stock to be built
Oh Indian travellers, while in any other country, don’t forget that you represent all 1,441,303,328 citizens of Bharat & any uncouth, uncivilized behavior/ activity of yours belittles us all! In Kenya on the safari, we’ve been encountering many Indians behaving irresponsibly- from getting off the jeeps for reels & selfies to climbing atop the jeep (strictly not permitted), yelling on top of their voices passing weird statements, to even touching the animals putting the lives of people as well as animals in danger…😡 If the animal reacts, its ‘mauling’ the humans, & if he does react, he’ll be shot dead in a minute! Passing thepla/ chaklis across to their groups in other vehicles, littering leftovers, wrappers..🫣 Every time such a group was in the vicinity, we had to hear, “this one is from your country”😟 Posting few clips of some groups in a thread, lets identify & shame them! #KenyaDiaries #MasiMara

Take a look at this idiot who actually touched the lion, & his foolish friends in another car opposite to him made this clip!! Look at him giving a thumbs up after this atrocious act! After the outrage & reactions, a safari friend of mine who posted it was asked to get it down.. but it was too late! Let’s get this guy & have his passport cancelled!

Do you know that one kick of a giraffe can kill a lion instantly? Made a mistake of not making a video of this gujju group that went as close as 2 feet for reels & selfies, to this pregnant giraffe & her son at crescent island walking safari. Despite their guide & ours stopping them, they went on for over 30 minutes.. what a shame!

Another group in 2 cars was such an embarrassment screaming across the cars.. when politely asked to maintain silence, called us names, “desi baandri”, “who are we to tell them” etc., & went even louder, did slow down a bit when they saw me making their video..

It saddens me to share the news of the passing of Vineet Nayyar this morning. Vineet was a larger than life figure in the Indian Business landscape. A distinguished IAS officer, who then served with the World Bank, he became the first Chairman of GAIL He then made a hugely successful transition to the private sector becoming the Managing Director of HCL Corporation Ltd., and the Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies Ltd. And it was from there that he and two of his close colleagues journeyed to Mahindra British Telecom. We called them the Three Musketeers! They came in with a startup mentality, determined to take MBT (which they renamed Tech Mahindra) into the top ranks of the Indian IT industry—and that’s exactly what they did. Most notably by the bold acquisition of Satyam, a deal spearheaded by Vineet. But I will personally be most grateful to him for his vision in exhorting us to establish Mahindra University, on the campus of the erstwhile Satyam Computer. He provoked us to create what will perhaps be one of the most important legacies of our Group. Thank you Vineet, for your wisdom, your leadership and for committing the crowning part of your career to the Mahindra Group. Above all, thank you for your friendship. You will always live on in our hearts. Om Shanti 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Why I will be voting for Prime Minister Modi & his government As a rule, I have not spoken on politics in the past. I’d like to break this self-imposed rule this time. I support Prime Minister Modi and his national government. I think it’s crucial to vote for our Prime Minister, through his candidates, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. And I seek to share with you the thoughts that have guided this decision. The obvious reasons from his government’s past record have been covered by many, and I will quickly run through some of them. Dramatic reduction in poverty, emphatic strengthening of the national finances and fisc, vast improvements in infrastructure (I see it in Mumbai, the city I live in, and also Varanasi, the city my family hails from), rising GDP growth rates, investments in science & tech, incentives for start-ups & small-business loans (something I hear about from my readers, who are largely the youth), vastly improved welfare delivery (which has reduced leakages that were common in the past). All good things. But the key reason is this: The long peace and Global Order that emerged 1945 onwards, after the end of World War II, is clearly coming to an end. Wars are raging across many parts of the world. Old alliances are breaking down. The world is not able to come together to manage Global problems like the after-effects of a once-in-a-generation pandemic like Covid, unsustainable trade imbalances, debt crisis (including in the rich developed world, frankly), piracy issues in the seas, vast reduction in the costs of hi-tech weapons of war (which allows terrorists like Houthis to largely blockade the critical Suez Canal, for instance), the climate crisis… These are timebombs waiting to blow up on the face of the planet. And the world is unprepared to handle most of them. When a Global Order crumbles, there is usually a time of chaos, tumult and often, war. We are living in one such period of tumult & intense change. And how the world lands – on its feet or not - in this period, will decide the new Global Order over the next many decades, perhaps even a few centuries. At such critical times, one needs top-of-the-line leadership. The US had exceptional leadership during World War I & II. It led to the present World Order that emerged, and it was very advantageous for the US. At this critical stage in world history, we Indians need leadership that has intense motivation, competencies that are top-of-the-line, ability to work hard, capability to carry the masses along. And skills to engage with the world with firm clarity; with kindness when possible, but with steely resolve when necessary. There are many who love and admire Prime Minister Modi. Some do not. To those who don’t, my appeal, at this critical juncture in world history is this: we need a strong government with a clear majority, which can engage with the world in a robust manner and ensure that India emerges at the top at the end of this period of tumult. If India is strong, all of us Indians at least have a chance of being strong. If India weakens (like it did in the late 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s), it is guaranteed that we will all weaken. Remember, because we have a strong government, we can negotiate resolutely with more powerful countries and do things which are in our national interest (like buying oil from Russia, which has kept our inflation in check). We need Chanakyan leadership at this critical time for our nation, our civilisation. We need Prime Minister Modi to continue. I will be voting for the NDA candidate in my constituency. I hope you will too. - Amish 15th April, 2024 #LokSabhaElections2024

They were shy when I requested them for their autographs, which I am proudly holding. But they are the true real-life heroes Manoj Kumar Sharma, IPS and his wife Shraddha Joshi, IRS. The extraordinary couple on whose lives the movie #12thFail is based. Over lunch today, I learned that the film’s narrative is true to their real stories. And they continue practising their philosophy of living a life of scrupulous integrity. If India is to become a global power, it will happen more rapidly if more people adopt their way of life. So they are the real celebrities of this country. And their autographs are heirlooms. I am a wealthier man today, for having met them.
