“And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history—money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery—the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” -C.S. Since 2015–16, enrollment has dropped in all but one year, and there are now nearly 500,000 fewer students in California's public TK–12 schools 📉 The greater Los Angeles region has seen the most substantial decline, and projects an even larger decrease over the next decade

When I give my savings to @elonmusk they multiply. When I give them to you and all of the US government, they disappear.
Elon Musk just became the world's first trillionaire. The typical American household would have to work more than 11 MILLION years to make Elon Musk's level of wealth. We need a wealth tax.

Sonja Shaw's district has better academic outcomes and finances in the 4 years at CVUSD than Richard Barrera has in his nearly 20 years at the helm of SDCUSD. If you're not a partisan who wants to improve education performance, I think that Shaw is the obvious choice.
Sonja Shaw and Richard Barrera, both board presidents of high-performing school districts, are running for state superintendent of public instruction with differing views on transgender students, funding and ethnic studies. #caedu #capol buff.ly/Jpc0vzP

Breaking News: The California Supreme Court has denied the State of California's petition for review and request to stay the Palisades Fire Litigation. The Supreme Court denied the State's request to overturn the trial court's order overruling the State's demurrer to the plaintiffs' Master Complaint. This means that the fire victims' case against the State can proceed towards trial. Discovery has just begun. Justice is coming for the Palisades Fire victims. @spencerpratt @Hotshot_Movie @JeremyCom @LeonardFiles @AleneTchek

Elon just created 4,400 millionaires in a single day. 400 of them are now worth over $100 million. These aren't VCs. They're SpaceX employees, and the list includes welders, technicians, and cafeteria staff, because for two decades the company paid every level of the workforce in stock instead of higher salaries. Juan Hernandez immigrated from Mexico and took a $28 an hour contractor welding job in 2015. He says he didn't even know what SpaceX was. The company gave him a $10,000 equity grant and let him buy more shares through payroll deductions. That stake is now worth $880,000. Trevor Hise's parents wanted him to take a stable job at General Electric. He picked SpaceX instead, stayed 12 years, and accumulated over 100,000 shares. At the $135 listing price that's $13.5 million. He's 37 and semiretired. His words: "The magnitude of this has been ridiculous." The most telling detail came before the listing. Over 100 employees quietly banded together and negotiated a group wealth management deal covering up to $5 billion, because none of them had ever needed a wealth manager before. Software IPOs have minted millionaires for 30 years. This is the first one where the money went to the factory floor.

What's worse is California Democrats continue to raise a middle finger to businessmen of all strata, rich and poor alike. But California voters like to self-immolate, so the burning of our business class will continue.
This aged horrifically. California politicians dunked on Elon and helped drive out SpaceX, Tesla jobs, engineers, suppliers, and the tax base. Now SpaceX is headed for a $1.75T IPO. “Message received” may be the most expensive political own-goal in California history.

There are ZERO guardrails in the use of AI in K-12 education. And I'm not sure the government schools will ever be able to figure something out with their schizophrenic appeal to so many constituencies.

This kind of article about California's decline is now written about once every other week. It's depressing and mostly accurate. I've written a few of these columns myself. But... ...can we stop saying that Jerry Brown was "probably the most competent and fiscally conservative governor in the state’s recent history"? While the relative comparison may be true, the governor was reckless in so many policy areas that fiscal sustainability could and would not hold. The record post-governorship does not jive with the myth the media has perpetuated as people actually look at his record. I had a front row seat at the show and the fictions people believe about his non-personal fiscal prudence are legion. Yes, Gavin Newsom is a spendthrift, but he's less deftly playing on every policy machination created and perpetuated by Brown, not in ideation only, but in fruition. And by that measure, Brown planted weeds and scrub brush in his two-times as governor that are figuratively and literally burning the state down. Is it bad here in California? Yes. Did Brown stem the tide while in office? Absolutely not.
California’s decline was not destiny but the product of political choices that turned America’s greatest success story into a cautionary tale. amgreatness.com/2026/06/08/c…

Folks, this is how the #caleg jams the #cabudget through the process these days. They publish some half-cooked version they negotiated behind closed doors with the Gov, Speaker and Pro Tem with the input of the gov unions and Planned Parenthood that barely satisfies the "balanced budget" requirement knowing that they will have a dozen trailer bills to address other issues and possibly a budget bill jr at the end of session. There's no real debate in budget committee since all the sub-budget hearings were pro forma and "covered" the relevant issues (they'll say). The joint budget committee rubber stamps the agreement and they ship two bills concurrently so they don't have to react to the other houses' problems that they are now stuck with. The whole process reeks with corruption. They should not be celebrated for this steaming pile of garbage. They should be mocked, shamed and vilified for not taking the work of their voters seriously.
Anticipated schedule: Senate Floor Session – Mon, June 15, 2pm Budget Cmte, 10am, Rm 1200 AB 109 expected to be Budget Bill to GGN’s Desk Senate will go first with Assembly concurring Assembly Floor Session – Mon, June 15, 5pm Budget Cmte, Upon Call, Rm 1100 (expected at 1pm)
