As a
@ufc fan I can tell you thereās a clear solution to the heavyweight situation, which Iāll get to later itt. Itās just insulting at this point to have to list to
@danawhite continually glaze
@JonnyBones as p4p #1 and maintain the undisputed strap for 1.5 years without fighting. Everyone else other than Jon has been stripped at this point. Or if they havenāt (eg Khabib and <1.5 years), when they come back they have to fight the interim champ.
Bones definitely might be the GOAT. Thatās a clear, reasonable argument, and short of someone claiming PED disqualification one I think I agree with.
However p4p =\= goat. And Jon isnāt the #1 p4p rn. IMO heās not even top 5. Heās 37 and won one fight in 4.5 years. He should be lucky to even be on the p4p list simply due to inactivity. Having him #3 is too high.
@Topuriailia ,
@dricusduplessis ,
@bullyb170 ,
@AspinallMMA should all definitely be higher.
Whatās worse is Dana is theoretically supposed to be promoting all these other fighters as well, so his dismissive way of promoting Jones at the expense of the rest of these killers on his roster is just bad promotion by their boss. Danaās gotten a lot of things right. But this is clearly wrong.
Also, Dana, maybe 1-2 years ago people cared about the Jones-Stipe fight for the undisputed belt. Now nobody other than Jon, Stipe, & you want that fight. The time passed. Aspinall is now the interim champ who somehow defended the interim belt. Heās beaten almost all the top heavyweights (Jones beat 1 only, Gane). Everyone who actually follows the sport wants to see Tom Vs Jones.
If the next fight isnāt Jon vs Tom for the undisputed strap, then you should strip Jones and make Tom the undisputed champ. At that point you can make a legacy Jon vs Stipe fight. Winner of that fight can fight Tom for the undisputed belt if they donāt want to retire. Thatās obviously the move here.
Dana going on interview after interview making bad arguments about Jon being #1 p4p today because heās had a great career is just out of line. Iām sure it must mostly be a way to promote him and this Stipe fight for the undisputed strap - which disrespects the entire heavyweight division, most of all Tom, at this point. Itās time to cut bait and change plans. Sunk cost fallacy at play here my guy.
If you want MMA to be taken seriously as a sport, then the UFC as the runaway leader sometimes has to do the right thing for competitive reasons - especially at the top of the division. This is one of those moments, and Iām posting this as a call out. Still time to fix this.
