The prequel to Solomon’s Key was a game I stumbled into by accident. I was a huge fan of the first game but by 1993 the NES was basically on its way out. Oddly renamed Fire ‘N Ice in the US, you’d never know this was actually Solomon’s Key 2. I rented it on a whim and when I started playing I was like, “Oh this is Solomon’s Key.” It’s more of a pure puzzle game than Solomon’s Key was but it’s really fun. There’s even a level editor that lets you design your own puzzles.

Noid is such an odd character that really only works in the era he existed in. Outside of the ‘80s it’s probably weird and hard to understand how he has anything to do with pizza. Just kidding. He was super weird in the ‘80s too. So of course they gave him his own video game.

I was lucky enough to own both of the games in this NES Capcom ad - Mega Man 2 and Strider. Capcom had such a great and historic run on the NES. I can’t think of a single game I played that was developed by Capcom for the NES that I didn’t enjoy. Radical action indeed.

I keep telling everyone what Nintendo needs to do but they probably won’t do it. Make an ‘80s art style animated game. If an indie team can make Cuphead then Nintendo can surely do this. Keep it simple, bring back dungeons and it would be one of the greatest games ever made.

I do think that the shine of open world Zelda has worn off a bit and everyone will be disappointed if the next new title is just more of the same, but I really liked both of the ones they made. The trick will be making a game that threads the needle for both kinds of 3D Zelda fan

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube / Wii, 2006).
Twilight Princess has been treated similarly to Zelda II as the decades have gone on. It’s an amazing game that Nintendo (and Zelda fans) ignore for the most part, while Link to the Past & Ocarina of Time are talked about ad nauseam. It rarely even makes top 5 Zelda lists. Sad

Video games were the best when they were made by a bunch of dudes like this.
The original Duke Nukem Forever team, in 1998. A seriously talented group of guys, most of which are still in the industry.

Super C is exactly what a sequel should be. It’s Contra but with the volume cranked up. I never owned it as a kid, so it was only ever a rental for me but I still loved it. Fun fact: It was re-titled Super C in the US to avoid the Iran-Contra scandal.

I have zero excitement for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Give us ports of the originals to keep games preserved or make new things. That’s all I want at this point. No more remakes.

This was the moment that I knew movies were fake. The Power Glove IS “so bad.” Just not the way he meant it.
