Solidarity is fundamental when attacks and Russian aggression against Ukraine do not stop, even in face of millennia-old symbols of Christianity and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
We are reaffirming Italy and Japan’s commitment to defending international law and achieving just and lasting peace.
Firm support for Kyiv and pursuit of peace will obviously be central elements of G7 summit.
We will also reiterate our commitment to reactivating negotiating process to end the war.

В результате очередного массированного обстрела украинской столицы погибли четыре человека, ещё 30 получили ранения. Российские террористы запустили 40 баллистических ракет, 30 крылатых ракет и сотни «Шахедов». По Киеву били в том числе гиперзвуковыми ракетами «Циркон».
Москва нанесла удар, в частности, по одной из главных святынь Киева и всего украинского народа — Киево-Печерской лавре. Горел главный храм комплекса — Успенский собор, или, как его ещё называют, Великая церковь. Этот собор был разрушен во время Второй мировой войны и восстановлен уже в независимой Украине. Существуют две основные версии его уничтожения в середине XX века: его могли взорвать либо коммунисты, либо нацисты.
Во всяком случае, известный кинорежиссёр Александр Довженко, который сразу после изгнания нацистов приехал в Киев, считал, что собор был взорван именно коммунистами. Как бы там ни было, этой ночью российские войска ударили ещё и по киностудии имени Довженко. В результате была уничтожена крупнейшая и старейшая в стране коллекция костюмов.
Современная Российская Федерация вобрала в себя всё худшее от двух тоталитарных преступных режимов — нацистского и коммунистического — и сегодня повторяет их преступления. Путин и его армия пытаются уничтожить культурное наследие украинского народа, стереть его национальную идентичность и историческую память. Это не про «переговорные позиции» и не про «ответ на дипстрайки». Это методичная реализация стратегии, избранной ещё в 2022 году: ликвидации Украины как государства и изгнания либо ассимиляции украинского народа.

One and all were aware of Notre Dame cathedral, in Paris -- which burned by accident. We should be aware of this, too.
Parts of the UNESCO-protected Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Ukraine's most revered Orthodox monastery, were set ablaze during a Russian missile and drone barrage. Across the country, at least nine people were killed and dozens injured as 70 missiles and more than 600 drones targeted major cities. Ukrainian officials condemned the fire at Kyiv World Heritage site as an attack on the nation’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

The Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will be restored.
Thanks to the professionalism and swift actions of our emergency responders, the fires have been extinguished.
Russia attempted to destroy the Lavra for a second time – just as it did in 1941. Thankfully, we will not have to rebuild this Ukrainian shrine from its foundations.
The Government will secure funding for its restoration. As President Zelenskyy noted, the Government is preparing decisions to allocate resources from the reserve fund for urgent roof stabilization and its subsequent restoration.
We expect a response from international organizations to yet another barbaric act by Russia. I have instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Tetiana Berezhna @BerezhnaT to intensify this work, including through the tools of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.
Since early morning, I have also received numerous messages from representatives of Ukrainian businesses and philanthropists willing to contribute to the restoration of this sacred site. Thank you for your shared values and readiness to help.
The Government, together with the reserve administration, will organize this process.
My deepest gratitude goes to Ukraine’s Defense Forces and the State Emergency Service teams, who are working selflessly at the attack site to save lives and protect our cultural heritage. 🇺🇦

Notre-Dame was built from 1163–1345.
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was founded in 1051, with the Dormition Cathedral being built from 1073-1078, predating Notre-Dame by over a century.
When did launching missiles into major Christian cathedrals become normalized?

No Christian church, - orthodox, catholic or protestant can be silent about this attack on holy site in Kyiv - one of the cradles of Christianity in Europe. Ukrainians prayed to Jesus in this place since it was founded in 1050. God will help us continue praying to Him for Ukraine, victory and peace despite Russian brutal criminal attacks.

This is how Russia shows the world its intention to continue the war. It is very important that there be a response from the G7 countries, which are now gathering for their summit – and that this response be decisive and substantive: more pressure on the aggressor and more support for Ukraine’s air defense, especially anti-ballistic capabilities.
Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the Russian strikes are ongoing in Kyiv, as well as in Kharkiv. Last night, the Russians launched more than 60 missiles at the capital alone. In total, 70 missiles and 611 drones were used against Ukraine. As of now, 28 people have been reported injured and four killed in the capital. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. A Russian strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra set the Dormition Cathedral on fire – a church whose history dates back to the 11th century. And this is one of Russia’s most serious crimes against Christian culture to date. The State Emergency Service has already extinguished the fire on the cathedral’s roof. In Kharkiv, the Russians carried out a repeat strike against our rescuers as they were putting out a fire at the site of an earlier strike on an industrial facility. So far, tragically, five people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Nine people have been injured. In Dnipro, Russia struck the grounds of a railway station, a college, and several enterprises.
Other cities and communities were targeted as well. The Kyiv, Dnipro, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions were also under attack. This is how Russia shows the world its intention to continue the war.
