In 2024 the UK real estate sector is stubbornly anchored to the 19th century. For no reason, the building freeholder in which I live is blocking my access to fiber cable. UK politicians love to boast about innovation, but in fact UK could be very backward. Let's hope for change.

It is not high-tech but I strongly believe that hydro with large dams and pumped storage will play a key role.
Large dams are the only economical seasonal storage and pumped hydro are great for balancing daily solar output.
Can we still expand hydro in Europe ?

Here's the share of coal of UK electricity generation. It went from 39% in 2012 to 1% in 2023.

This trend has a boringly obvious explanation. Boys and girls used to hang out together more. The girls made the boys more liberal and the boys made the girls more conservative. But now the boys are at home playing shooter games, and the girls are at home posting on Instagram.

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

At midday today, wind is producing 42% and nuclear almost 16% of the UK's electricity. Solar is producing almost 7% - in the middle of January. UK grid carbon intensity is well below 100g CO2 per kilowatt.
