Parsers and parsing accessories. Para-academic. Rootless cosmopolitan redneck. Writes for @Status451Blog. 'Juvenile but not white supremacist' -- @splcenter
Zoomed in to langsec workshop this year. Dan Wallach, keynote speaker from DARPA, points out that upward of 80% of CVEs are rooted in parsers, one way or another.
Oh wow. Wallach asked Gemini's "deep research" feature to find all the CVEs for popular JSON parsers and categorize them, and it took it half an hour. That's eons for an LLM.
I guess this says something about how many JSON parsers there are, and how many bugs they have.
I've let my parents and @sergeybratus know that I won't be coming home for my birthday or langsec workshop. They took it well, and agree with my reasoning.
It is super weird to feel uncomfortable with the idea of crossing the border into my own country.
Hey #FOSDEM people, we're reviving the traditional meatspace party this year! Friday, January 31, same place I've always lived. (DM if you need the address.)
We'll provide beer and snacks. Bring bottles and stuff to hack on.
The cube is waiting for you!
so, this being "the everything app" and all, x, where are we on replacement colons? I have reasons for asking, but fair warning, they're pretty gross reasons. Health gross, not sex gross.
Thank you thank you thank you to whoever at Sony Music fixed the multichannel music video for "Like a Rolling Stone"! Seriously y'all check it out, this is so cool video.bobdylan.com/

And just to head off the obvious objections before they start:
"Oh Meredith, you're a libertarian, you believe in a right to property. But CCC has different political beliefs, they believe all property is theft anyway."
Don't care. Whether politics or laziness...
The #1 rule of CCC events is "be excellent to each other." Theft is the exact opposite of excellent behavior. They should have snipped the burglar's wristband and escorted him out of the event. They just didn't care to.

So if #38c3 doesn't care about whether we feel secure in showing up, we get the message and don't see any reason wasting our breath in arguing.
I just want ordinary attendees to understand they're taking the risk of being robbed and being blamed for it.
Oh and for anyone who wants to come at me with "well it's a big event, you have to be responsible for watching your own stuff" like Starbug did: SHE WAS IN HER TENT WHEN THE GUY TRIED TO BURGLE IT, what do you want her to do? Handcuff her briefcase to her wrist? Learn to read.
