Don Meichenbaum wrote the checklist for spotting hype in psychotherapy. He named hypnosis as one of the worst offenders. He's just agreed to chair our Senior Advisory Board. When the field's leading hype-sceptic vouches for your hypnosis, that means something. zurl.co/jya1n #HypnoCBT #CBT #Psychotherapy #EvidenceBasedPractice #Hypnosis

"Yoga is the stilling of the turnings of the mind." -- Patanjali Our minds turn, turn, turn. Neuroscience calls it the Default Mode Network. Worry. Rumination. The story you keep telling yourself about who you are. Literally you are talking to yourself about yourself. It's quite easy to stop when you see that. It's not "thoughts" - it's thinking. And you're doing it. Stop. Rest in who you are when it all stops. #HypnoCBT #meditation #DefaultModeNetwork

New meme for the ages
This is the greatest video I’ve ever seen. No notes. The lifeless clanker carcass just laying there. No crowd reaction, anything. Just Billie Jean. Until its lifeless shell is shamefully dragged off. Purely amazing.

Wonderful to see Bradley Horowitz and the Wisdom Ventures team building around heart, mind, and soul. At a time when technology and AI could pull in many directions, this is the kind of capital alignment we need: wisdom, compassion, and human flourishing.
I’m so happy to share that we’ve closed Wisdom Ventures Fund II and raised $77.7m (against our target of $50m.) WSJ Coverage: lnkd.in/gJ7Ncka4 Press Release: lnkd.in/gtHaqpiM Incredibly grateful to my partners - Cecily Mak, Soren Gordhamer, Zoe Rogers, Vivek Murthy, Ruchika Sikri, Diego Perez, and Jack Kornfield. What an amazing and unexpected constellation of heart, mind and soul.  Privileged to be on this ride together.

This applies to anything requiring effort. Study, relationships, work How we talk to ourselves DOES matter! And... it's easy to change! BUT - how does self talk relate to autosuggestion and self-hypnosis? (Technically "self-talk" is called Self-Instruction Training and was developed by Dr Donald Meichenbaum, as a very early form of CBT) We cover Self-Instruction Training and Self-Hypnosis as part of our Hypno-CBT® Diploma training programme. see our website for more details: ukhypnosis.com #selfhypnosis #cbt
How you talk to yourself matters. In one study on lifting weights, goal directed self-talk "enhanced performance by 43% once an RPE of eight was reached, resulted in 63% more repetitions, and demonstrated more efficient muscle activation patterns."

Absolutely extraordinary exchange between Israel and China 👇 I've never seen such a heated exchange come out of top-level forum in China (this is from the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum that started yesterday), this normally never happens. The guy speaking is Yan Xuetong, the dean of the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University, the most prestigious university in China. Speaking for Israel is a military officer apparently called Elad Shoshan. Yan Xuetong truly doesn't hold back: - When the Israeli officer tries to bullshit him around how Israel supposedly protects civilians in Gaza, he replies: "You killed more than 70,000 civilians!... The fact is not decided by you... It is not decided by your government. Your government has no legitimacy or the right to decide or defend what is fact" - And when told that the war will end when Hamas release hostages he replies: "No, this kind of propaganda have too many. No one believe it! Too many! Too much! No one believe it, except a few Israelis"

Once you understand Gabor Maté's method, you can see he's a charlatan & uses oldest trick in the book "you have unresolved pain from your childhood" Who's not going to respond that schtick? He's been doing this a long time See this classic from 2014 peele.net/lib/mate.html

I've read Gabor Maté and liked his views on how trauma shapes addiction, but I'm 15 mins into his podcast with Hasan Minhaj and it's rubbing me horribly the wrong way. 5 mins in and he has suggested that Minhaj has ADHD, is emotionally immature and made a sort of conjurer's trick of predicting childhood and familial traumas. I don't know a single person trained in mental health who would make such snap judgements with such confidence based on 2-3 complaints. Labelling the whole episode as a "Therapy Session" makes it a major misrepresentation of what therapy looks like. @DoctorPerin @JonathanShedler

In a strange contortion of logic, it’s not unusual to hear, “I thought it was just me, but now I know it was my ADHD”, with ADHD then simultaneously occupying a role as an identity and the function of ‘something that’s not me’

In 2025, I have admitted 12 cases of psychosis to the hospital with LLM involvement. 1. This actually isn't new or AI-specific. 2. And no AI does not causes psychosis. And most importantly, 95% of what you're reading on X about "schizophrenia" is medically inaccurate. 🧵
Please stop laughing at the tech guy who is having an obvious schizophrenic break

Myers-Briggs isn't a personality test—it's a sorting hat for adults!🧙‍♂️ Shown to be halfway between science and your zodiac sign. But why so loved? Because too hard to think of yourself in a 5 dimensional space! except for INTP :) of course #MyersBriggs #Psychology
The Big Five test is about twice as accurate as the Meyers-Briggs test for predicting life outcomes, placing the usefulness of the MBTI test halfway between science and astrology—literally. When we use personality tests that impose categories—like the Meyers Briggs or Astrology—we risk exaggerating the differences between groups and the similarities within them. When this occurs with other types of identities like race or gender, we typically call it “stereotyping” and we try to avoid it. When consultants do it in companies, they are creating the same dynamics and doing it on dubious scientific grounds. Our latest newsletter explains why the MTBI is a bad measure, but why we are nevertheless obsessed with it! powerofusnewsletter.com/p/wh…

“Why metaphor ≠ mechanism — and why the field must choose: art, science, or honest pluralism.” Brilliant, important theme.
