My piece at Swarajya on who actually owns the brains behind India's Automotive industry. This is blowing up, and I am learning from the responses as well! Keep 'em coming. @amargov @astrokaran
Several years ago, engineers at a major Indian OEM wanted to add a simple valve to their own engine. They knew how to do it. The problem: the software running inside their own vehicle's ECU was locked. The key was in Germany. Three years later, the problem remained unsolved. 🧵

This non stop Chinese boasting is irritating and has the opposite effect they intend.
The #Gaokao is one of the most important exams for millions of Chinese students — and what makes it remarkable is its fairness. 📚✨ Success depends on personal ability, not family background or wealth. 💪 Students know their hard work truly pays off, because the process is strictly regulated and the road to academic success is not rigged. 🎯🌏 📖 #ChineseEducation #NEET #JEE #India #China #Gaokao

Rather, giving it away without strings, was. They should have been forced to show r&d investment. Instead Indian IT companies have the gall to complain they are spending too much on training & colleges should teach more IT 😂
Replying to @mchellap
Reducing corporate tax for such companies was a huge mistake.

After having staked everything on a certain belief in India, I found Indian industry either a) buys from foreigners or b) tries to make it themselves . They *never* buy from Indian vendors. If they do "b" it becomes a low quality R&D project as 1) they have little knowledge and companies like Infosys spend 0.6% on R&D so they will never develop capabilities 2) foreigners will never actually do tech transfer to you and 3) look at b! You rebuffed Indian support. Why don't we have tech sovereignty? This is the primary reason why. Without addressing this problem, if govt spends big money it will simply grease wheels but not result in products.

Prthaps Rubio displayed the values of the Kolkata Teresa unit he visited? Zero genuine compassion.
Rubio’s remarks were tone deaf and will further inflame anti-US sentiment. He didn’t even express condolences for India’s loss of life! Some “friend” Trump’s America is to India. hindustantimes.com/india-new…

For context Infy invests .6% of its revenue in R&D. Whats stopping the top 20 Indian firms from putting 500 mil USD each into AI ? You can then ask the govt to match it. Without doing your part asking public sector to do it all is a dicey strategy.
I think you did not get it. Foundational models cost between 50/60 b $ to build along with hyper cloud. They are getting commoditized . There are multiple models. What we need are vertical LLM’s, hyper cloud, multiple large AI apps etc. we need LLMs for cyber security, defence. All this needs an AI mission. AI is not LLM alone.

I see so many Indians showing deep concern over Indian tech sovereignty. But when an Indian comes to you with a product thats BETTER than an import why do they still make life so hard? They should embrace it instantly shouldn't they? I have repeatedly built products right here in India that compete with the Germans and Americans but Indian firms dont even trial them. This is tech reality. China on the other hand has a MANDATE that Chinese companies must buy imports only if local alternates arent available.

For those who are asking, this is the best systems engineering product built for the safety critical sectors. Better than IBM, Dassault and Siemens. And it totally changed your way of looking at AI workflows. Built here in India. nirmiq.com/

Yes thats right. And Indian batsmen were the ones stoutly opposing it 🤷‍♂️
Maybe this is exactly why DRS was introduced. 😳📷

Wikipedia is a western source. Indian Americans, a community that's highly privileged & wealthy, has been unwilling to take this up.... before maybe HAF. Even though it's a problem created for Indians from USA. Unless Indians from India take it on, nothing will change.
Must watch! @lsanger says Wikipedia was weaponized by just 4 editors to vandalize HAF's wiki page [including the very same editors who created & defend Audrey Truschke's & Hindus for Human Rights' wiki page]. India has a billion people--can't the country find 4 editors to fight inaccuracies, Sanger asks? Sanger also lays out how Wikipedia is useful for factual information, but when it comes to disputed issues, a left-wing & partisan bias predominates.

If Infosys had spent 15% of its revenue in R&D in the last 10 years it would have amounted to $22.7 billion USD. The figure for infy, wipro, tcs, cognizant & hcl: 111.87 b USD. Instead ⬇️

We are long past the point of caring what perceptions abroad are. Indians are not to blame for lack of credibility of western press and discourse. But the end result is, a country once over sensitive to global opinion is now insensitive to it.
I'll get yelled at for saying this but this is another example of a stmt that might play well w/in India but will be a strategic communications loss for India abroad. Whatever nuance/caveats of actual practice, it'll be seen abroad as "India denying water to parched Pakistanis"

💯 True and it's sickening. This Air India disaster somehow gave me.a push to get my systems engineering product out. That final motivation I needed. Why? Because I know this is a systems engineering failure from Boeing. I have written about it enough (can search my tweets).
Jun 13
Despicable behavior so far from Modi Govt and TATAs in the accident investigation. People claiming Boeing cover up should know that Boeing hasn’t managed to cover up its past failures. No safety bulletin has gone out for 787s based on this accident. This is a cover up to protect Air India and TATAs.

Sorry sir. With due respect, Indian tech titans sat on their hands for almost a decade now and even professed that India can just build around applications and build its moat. Now when sovereign imperatives demand, the same tech titans seeking the driver’s seat is untenable.

Point taken on our need to improve but why are people so quick to believe Chinese stories? Their defense tech was proven plastic in Sindoor.
Remember a lot of the missile and space tech we are still mastering were perfected in 1970s. China now is a fast follower, we aren’t. This has not just economic implications but also military.
