The dangers of AI without ethics frameworks.
Replying to @gchaslot
We designed YT’s AI to increase the time people spend online, because it leads to more ads. The AI considers Brian as a model that *should be reproduced*. It takes note of every single video he watches & uses that signal to recommend it to more people 4/ youtube-creators.googleblog.…

Privacy is the foundation of free speech. Without it, people will censor themselves for fear of retribution by collectors and aggregators of personal information – whether a sleazy tabloid like the National Enquirer; Big Tech (Facebook, Google, Apple); or the FBI and NSA.

blockchain is proof of existence and to establish that proof you don't need trust. For it to have value or to be able to be converted into something else you still need trust yes. blockchain it is not all encompassing but that doesn't make it useless. wired.com/story/theres-no-go…

Without privacy, there is no freedom.
There is more and more opposition to bulk surveillance on the part of governments all around the world. The time is now to stand up and say NO: Surveillance is the antithesis of freedom; Privacy forms the foundation of our freedom.

This is frightening @AnnCavoukian “Some apps, such as Air Canada, don't properly mask data that's recorded, exposing information like passport numbers and credit card information. Air Canada employees with access to the screenshot database can readily see this data.”

This is a deeply disturbing perspective on the humanitarian sector - esp. because humanitarian orgs won’t own the data. I sincerely hope orgs retrench in value and values (the good and principled use of data) instead of continuing to slide into surveillance humanitarianism.
'The organisation who owns the data owns the sector. ' Raises the question: who is going to own the #humanitarian sector, and are we prepared to deal with these ethical questions? @YDaccordICRC poses important question at #SOHS2018 launch (1/2)

The right solution to bad behavior by a tech giant like Facebook or Google is not unilateral action by another tech giant like Apple. We cannot stake our rights to privacy and security on corporate turf wars. eff.org/deeplinks/2019/01/wh…
