NEW: Schumer spent the last year being a proverbial punching bag for angry Democrats. But with ~five months until the election, he believes some of his bets are paying off with the party in striking distance of retaking the majority. “We made a lot of strategic decisions that got us to this place, it didn’t happen by accident" (More in IC from Schumer tomorrow) politico.com/news/2026/06/11…

NEW — Hakeem Jeffries made clear “affordability” would be House Dems’ primary focus in a majority. One problem: not all Dems agree affordability is Job 1. Some Dems told me they want to see an anti-corruption measure serve as the party’s signature HR1. The CBC is pushing for a voting rights bill. Even Democrats who agree lowering costs should be a majority’s top priority, disagree about how to do it. More about the test Jeffries faces as would-be speaker in rallying his 212-member caucus behind palatable legislation that party can champion ahead of 2028. politico.com/news/2026/06/11…

New: Democrats aren’t done debating Graham Platner. A small yet notable faction of Capitol Hill Democrats still has qualms about the oysterman's past, and several senators stopped short of outright endorsing when asked by @POLITICO. A big team effort: politico.com/news/2026/06/10…

The first bill of a House Dem majority will focus on affordability, Hakeem Jeffries told reporters. In a letter, Jeffries also announced new working groups tackling the cost of housing, gas and utilities, groceries and goods, caregiving and health care. tinyurl.com/2z237z4p

If Rep. French Hill can get a landmark housing affordability bill to President Donald Trump’s desk, it may go down as the legislative maneuver of the year. More for pros— subscriber.politicopro.com/a… The tldr from @samjsuttonpolitico.com/newsletters/mor…

Worse, this time Trump's involvement is going to polarize the issue and Congress is dysfunctional so everyone is going to hate it and then it will be impossible to go back.
People are going to hate this if it happens, just like they hated it in the 1970s when we tried it before. Just months into permanent DST, the House voted 383-16 to repeal it.

President Trump has fixated on the issue of making daylight savings time permanent -- personally making calls to Republicans to gin up support for a measure to end the twice-yearly time change and add more sunlight hours to the evenings. @AlexGangitano politico.com/news/2026/06/05…

To the extent it's a trend, it would expect a correlation to the widespread rollout of high res and birdseye backup cameras.
Why do people reverse into parking spaces? At first it was one or two misdirected fools, now it's spreading like a disease. It makes no sense. You are only making it so much harder for yourself, and everyone hates you as you block the road trying to get into the space.

perfect opportunity for the TANGLE AT TANGLEWOOD
No more hiding in Maryland, @EdMarkey. No more lies. Your old status quo games won’t work in 2026. The voters of this Commonwealth deserve a transparent debate on the future of our country, and I look forward to a debate in Western Massachusetts. I am ready to debate you every single week until the primary in September - if you can keep up. I hope you’ll also join me for the @kelleratlarge debate on June 16. It’s an opportunity to directly debate Trump’s horrible and racist policies, and to stand up for Massachusetts values against the presumptive GOP nominee.

The Rayburn House Office Building is full of beautiful midcentury flourishes — and all the toxic materials of the era like lead and asbestos. Congress is grappling with plans for a full renovation that could have a $9b price tag & 20 year timeline. politico.com/news/2026/06/04…
