이번에 SPCX가 온체인에서 거래되기 시작했다는 소식을 보면서 내가 주목한 부분은 단순히 "주식이 블록체인 위로 올라왔다"는 사실이 아니다. 진짜 중요한 것은 SPCX가 Redeem 가능한 토큰 증권이라는 점이다. 이게 생각보다 엄청나게 중요하다. 과거에도 토큰 증권은 있었다. 주식 가격을 추적하는 토큰. 금 가격을 추적하는 토큰. 각종 실물 자산 가격을 따라가는 토큰. 이런 것들은 만드는 것 자체는 어렵지 않다. 오라클을 붙이고, 가격 피드를 가져오고, 시스템을 설계하면 겉으로 보기에는 실제 자산과 비슷하게 움직이는 토큰을 만들 수 있다. 문제는 신뢰다. 시장이 정말 궁금해하는 것은 하나다. "그 토큰을 실제 자산으로 바꿀 수 있는가?" 이다. 크립토 역사에는 이 질문을 피해 가려고 했던 수많은 시도가 있었다. 대표적인 사례가 알고리즘 스테이블코인이다. DeFi가 태동하고 온사람들로부터 수많은 DeFi 관련 인프라도 같이 관심을 받고 있을 당시, 크립토 업계는 중앙화된 스테이블코인을 별로 좋아하지 않았다. 중개자가 없는 미래를 꿈꾸던 크립토에서.. USDT는 테더를 믿어야 했고, USDC는 써클을 믿어야 했기 때문이다. 결국 누군가가 실제 달러를 들고 있어야 하고, 누군가가 그 가치를 보증해야 했다. 많은 사람들은 이것이 블록체인의 철학과 맞지 않는다고 생각했다. 그래서 시장은 중앙화된 담보 없이도 스스로 가치를 유지하는 알고리즘 스테이블코인을 꿈꾸기 시작했다. 그리고 그 정점에 있었던 것이 UST였다. 당시에는 정말 많은 사람들이 믿었다. 시스템이 자동으로 균형을 맞추고, 시장 논리가 페그를 유지하며, 중앙화된 발행사가 없어도 된다고 말이다. 하지만 결과는 모두가 알고 있다. UST는 무너졌고, 루나는 역사상 가장 큰 붕괴 중 하나로 기록되었다. 나는 이 사건이 단순한 시스템 실패였다고 생각하지 않는다. 본질은 신뢰의 실패였다. 사람들은 결국 깨달았다. "실제 달러가 있는 것"과 "달러처럼 보이도록 설계된 것"은 전혀 다르다는 사실을. 아무리 정교한 메커니즘이 있어도, 위기 상황에서 "진짜로 교환 가능한가?" 라는 질문에 답하지 못하면 신뢰는 사라진다. 토큰 증권도 마찬가지다. 오라클이 아무리 정확해도, 주가를 아무리 잘 추적해도, 사람들은 결국 같은 질문을 한다. "이 토큰을 실제 주식으로 바꿀 수 있는가?" 만약 답이 없다면, 그 토큰은 결국 주식을 흉내 내는 파생상품에 가깝다. 하지만 Redeem이 가능하다면 이야기가 달라진다. 토큰과 실제 자산 사이에 확실한 연결고리가 생긴다. 토큰 가격이 실제 자산 가격에서 크게 벗어나면 차익거래가 발생하고, 그 과정에서 가격이 다시 수렴한다. USDC가 신뢰받는 이유와 비슷하다. 1 USDC를 언제든 1달러로 교환할 수 있다는 믿음이 있기 때문이다. 그래서 이번 SPCX가 의미 있는 것이다. 단순히 SpaceX 주식을 토큰화했다는 것이 아니다. 실제 자산과 연결되는 Redeem 구조를 갖춘 상태에서 온체인 거래가 시작되었다는 점이 중요하다. 더 나아가 이것은 첫 번째 성공 사례가 될 수 있다. 주식을 온체인에 올리기 위해서는 - 법적 구조 - 규제 대응 - 커스터디 - 발행 인프라 - 거래 인프라 - 정산 구조 등 수많은 문제를 해결해야 한다. 그런데 SPCX가 먼저 그 길을 열었다. 후속 기업 입장에서는 굳이 처음부터 모든 것을 다시 설계할 이유가 없다. 성공적으로 작동하는 선례를 따라가는 것이 훨씬 쉽다. 그래서 나는 SPCX가 솔라나 위에서 거래된다는 사실을 상당히 의미 있게 본다. 물론 앞으로 다른 체인에서도 토큰 증권은 등장할 수 있다. 하지만 첫 번째 성공 사례가 만들어지고, 유동성이 모이고, 규제 및 운영 경험이 축적되기 시작하면 네트워크 효과가 발생한다. 새로운 기업 입장에서는 "왜 검증된 시장을 놔두고 다른 곳에서 처음부터 다시 시작해야 하지?" 라는 질문을 하게 된다. 결국 토큰 증권 시장도 과거 스테이블코인 시장처럼 흘러갈 가능성이 높다. 사람들이 원하는 것은 가장 화려한 설계가 아니다. 가장 신뢰할 수 있는 구조다. 그리고 SPCX는 그 구조를 솔라나 위에 올렸다.

Could @Raydium and @solana AMM pools be coming back into focus? Many tokenized equities should start in the long tail: thin markets are better suited to pools before they become large enough for deep prop AMM quoting. Pools have always had a role in bootstrapping liquidity, and memecoins proved that model at scale. Which was perhaps the test run for tokenized equities. Raydium’s revenue mix is already starting to show tokenized assets becoming a meaningful category.

I expect this tokenized asset volume chart to keep going up and to the right. @Backpack is bringing regulated stock trading into a crypto-native account, with users able to purchase tokenized equities on @solana through Backpack Securities. @sunrisedefi is helping turn those assets into native Solana liquidity, making them tradable and composable across DeFi. Interested to see how this plays out.
