if you want longfics, you need to leave comments LOL theorizing about an ongoing plot, analyzing your fav sections, that shit is crack for writers (longfic or otherwise)
if you want well-written fics in general, show enthusiasm and give writers incentive to keep improving

I wouldn't consider myself a longfic writer, I mostly do oneshots, but just from being around for a decade (christ) on ao3, the trends I've noticed are
1. readers these days don't leave comments on unfinished fics, leading to lower motivation for writers to continue them

I say this to my kids all the time. Do it for the plot. Do it for the story. Tell yourself if it all goes wrong it will just be a funny story. Ironically job interviews, dates, and public speaking go better anyway if you're just happy to be there and not overthinking it!!
This is free advice from an expensive psychologist. If youβre an anxious person, do everything for fun. Go to a job interview for fun. Submit documents for fun. Start a blog for fun. Anxiety feeds on importance. Donβt make everything a matter of life and death.
