Enormous congrats to both Dena Lyras @MonashBDI and Rob Parton @PartonLab on recent ARC laureate success. Two finer, more deserving, scientists I cannot think of.
In case anyone missed the invite. The next Monash Advanced Imaging webinar is on 4pm (AEDT) on 19 May.
Suliana Manley will talk about super-resolution microscopy and fluorescent sensor enabled study of mitochondrial division and transcription. ALL WELCOME.
Somewhere out there it’s stil #WorldKidneyDay ! A thrill to join friends and colleagues worldwide to #sockittokidneydisease with a glorious late summer ride in to @MonashBDI, acknowledging the 850 million (!) pax w/ kidney disease #850challenge
To misquote Aaron Sorkin, it occurs to me that the sheer weight of carbon I’ve NOT burned in the last 12 months would be enough to stun a team of oxen. Several probably... #westwing
Thanks to @nhmrc funding we better understand how the kidney forms and how kidney diseases develop. Parlous underfunding of biomedical research in Oz limits translating this knowledge to treatment #SaveOzScience@theasmr1 @greghuntMP

Can anyone in the Twittersphere with a head for stats and a familiarity with vaccine trials fill me in on whether the Oxford subtrial on a low-high dose regime is sufficiently powered to claim a 90% protective effect? I’ve seen the words “up to” used a lot....
this is like when the away team scores 10 runs in the top of the 14th, so you know the outcome, but you have to wait while the home team bats - except that the fate of the world hangs in the balance and the home team is a fascist with nuclear weapons
Great honour and geographic good fortune to (I think) kick off #FootProcess event numero uno. Missed 100’ marathon by 48” but in my defence got lost and it was blowing a gale. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
Unfortunately, this is not new investment.
The @NHMRC budget hasn’t increased since 2006.
Australian discovery science is near collapse and more funds for NHMRC are urgently needed.
