A few thoughts on biking in Madison. 1. Lots of bike racks, at pretty much every business. They are nice staple racks placed correctly. 2. Cargo bikes are not rare. I've only seen 1 but had two folks stop me at the grocery store to tell me they have them at home.

Cool Chicago life hack: I was seeking a very specific mounting bracket for a bike handlebar bag, found the file online for the part, and put in a request at the CPL Maker Lab with the link to the project files. They'll not only print it, but send it to my local branch for pickup.

Writing this one made me curious: if you are car-free or car-light, what percentage of your household income do you spend on transportation, and what privileges make that possible? I'll start: 2% total, aka one tenth of the average American, apparently. 🫣 usa.streetsblog.org/2024/03/…

So the fact that almost all of the folks who were present at the event were older, whiter & wealthier than their community is problematic both because these folks are leveraging their privilege to deny access to housing to others *AND* because they don’t reflect the community

The city did poll demographics for the early comments on the plan. 57% over 56, 96% white, 57% have a household income over $100,000

I have written 4-6 articles a week for 4.5 years about why car domination is terrible, and yet this paper STILL surfaced a bunch of stuff I had never thought about before. Digest below, short thread of some of the most surprising ones in the🧵. usa.streetsblog.org/2024/03/…

Really love this quote from @kevinmuhs about how to judge feedback. The city has goals to reduce reckless driving and make our streets safer. Feedback and suggestions that run counter to that shouldn't be heeded.

Glancing at Madison's 2023 Housing Snapshot Report. With all this talk of "missing middle" housing, I'm always struck by how few 2-4 unit buildings we approve. Basically none. We've got to make it cheaper and easier to build that stuff. huduser.gov/portal/sites/def…

Planning a visit to my parents in San Jose. Thinking about bringing my skates to practice for my pre-bronze test in April. My dad: ā€œwhy don’t you just rent skates there?ā€ Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣
