It is very important to know the trick behind her office. She’s not employed by the United Nations. The special rapporteur is appointed by pretty obscure councils, which are formed on the basis of representation of the various continents and regions. In this case, by the so-called human rights council which, as has been repeatedly criticised, has not only a very indecent assembly of human rights violators as a result of the selection procedure, but is also frequently headed by the most violent perpetrators of human rights abuses, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The office of special rapporteur is unpaid, but it can only be granted and revoked by this council, which actually convenes only a few times a year. Its main purpose is a repeated, regular point on the agenda to weaponise the UN logo against Israel. Because that is what most of the rogue states in the council can agree upon. Albanese does not receive any remuneration for her office. The main perks are that she can use a secretarial service for writing and editing her so-called reports, mostly antisemitic pamphlets devoid of any reporting, not in the least because she is unable to travel to the territories she is supposed to be reporting on. Also, she apparently gets a UN diplomatic passport, but in a category that doesn’t grant her a full immunity.
There’s no likelihood in this world that her office is ever revoked before the term officially expires. She cannot travel to the United States either, so I guess she must be using that Service remotely.
