Does anyone not open sourcing because AI will "learn"/"steal" from it?

🌍 What if the entire Earth could be streamed as a photorealistic 3D world? This prototype renders billions of 3D Gaussian splats directly in the browser. Powered by @playcanvas . WebGPU WebGL. The technology is ready. The remaining challenge is capturing the planet. 👇

Many apps integrate AI through MCP to do work for you. But haven't yet seen where LLM would guide/mentor user's learning process through interaction in UI. So instead of delegating and degrading user capabilities, it would help you learn.

Wishful hyping is one of the primary drivers of AI today.

Through the years I had multiple "hey, lets talk" intros from Elon's companies: Tesla, xAI. And sadly every time I mention "I'm in Latvia", they simply stop responding.

Lets assume if a claim of "100x productivity with AI" is true. Then why did companies that hyped some ideas that nobody believed in, did not prove everyone wrong? Like "AAA games in a browser", or "Metaverse with thousands of players in a browser". Where are they?

When someone says "With WebGPU web games will be revolutionized" - they do not understand the web games platform. Same with WASM. Been hyped, and pushed as a silver bullet, and it is not. Web 3D is a tough and complex platform. It is not just another "compilation target".

AI does not *solve* intelligence for users. It potentially can *amplify* the user's intelligence. And if it is negative to start with.. -67 * 10 = -670!

Bragging about how much software you’re shipping with AI is like holding down the shutter button and bragging about how many photos you took.

Building 3D Editor - is not about coding it, its all about: 1. Architecture and strong technical structure. 2. Understanding user workflows and UX. 3. Information Architecture to help users build intuition. 4. Extensibility - through proper engineering. 5. Performance and stability. 6. Long term maintenance and consistency. Code - is just 10% of it.

Non-technical leaders, fuelled by hype, force AI and use it as an excuse to fire a large chunk of their engineers. Leading their products to instability and user churn. Maybe it will lead to the demise of such companies, and enable opportunities for more technical leaders?

Realtime Collaboration - is an amazing concept. It brings something that async collaborative workflows cannot. But it also requires a significant shift in workflows and introduces complexities on larger projects. What tools come to mind?

In general software development, industry evolves by adding layers of abstractions. But in graphics programming, it is all about reducing abstraction layers and distance from the hardware.

The @playcanvas team has solved collision for 3D Gaussian splats. Install splat-transform via NPM to get a CLI tool library that can output high quality voxel-based collision. Here you can see a splat navigated in first person mode with voxel rendering toggled on/off. 🧵

Synchronising data in space context: stations, bases, control. Between different devices as well as across space with control. It is an interesting challenge. Today there are two technologies to solve it: CRDTs and OTs. And both have cons and pros in the context of space communication. With latency of 2.5s between the Moon and Earth.

As much as we would want to deliver complex topics, and put aside emotions and human factors. The real world is not utopia. And empathy is important. Especially when you have controversial opinions. I used to deliver my arguments in a very cold and harsh manner, wishing it would be the most efficient way, but at the end of the day, we talk to humans, who have emotions, and the form of delivery often is more important, especially in the long term and for appealing to the masses.
"But Gamers Nexus isn't anything like Digital Foundry" Then why is the response exactly the same: youtu.be/NxjhtkzuH9M?t=916 This isn't drama. This is about waking up viewers to a pattern they'll eventually become allergic to. These old overused "arguments" are becoming lifeless.

Good morning, world! 🌎 We have spectacular new high-resolution images of our home planet, all of us looking back through the Orion capsule window at our Artemis II astronauts as they continue their journey to the Moon.

Meta is singlehandedly moving forward whole VR industry. (And Valve a bit).
