Easy way to tell if Iran is serious: any agreement requires that any government official there that says, “Death to America” serves jail time for incitement there. They’ll never do it

Diet coke vs coke zero is american culture. My wife and I are on opposite ends, and it’s a real strain on our marriage
Wine is just wine to most Americans, and Grana Padano is as good as parmesan is as good as pecorino. But just see what happens when you say that Coke Zero is the same as Diet Coke. Like Robert Conquest said, everyone is an Italian about what they know best.

There are monsters in Canada tearing down posters about this missing Jewish girl. Please circulate this to help find Esther. #EstherIsMissing

It’s truly depraved and sickening that someone would tear these down
In Toronto, a young Jewish girl named Esther has been missing for over a week. To make matters worse, people have been ripping down posters about her disappearance, just like they did with the hostage posters after 10/7—one of the more appalling things I've ever seen in my life.

My conspiracy theory is that this is true for similar reasons of not having a “walk in a safe and/or beautiful path” in the maps app - equity. They don’t want to penalize the worse restaurants too much
kind of infuriating that someone somewhere working on this maps app decided that filters on rating, number of reviews, and opening hours should be fuzzy rather than absolute

My favorite make me feel good/patriotic things to read on here is awesome defense tech stuff or flock safety solving crime stuff
San Francisco is safer because of Flock Safety. Every city can be safer. We don't have to choose a world where people are unsafe. It is a choice, though.

New idea for Mamdani’s NYC: skip the government grocery store and do govdash, doordash but done by the government. Food delivery is a human right, not everyone can make sandwiches at home

I don't really care if the security guard was an ignorant anti-Semite or that the leaders of this particular Mosque have a history of embracing extremism. There were kids inside, so I am thankful he acted to stop the shooters. This targeted attack was an act of terrorism. Something we can't accept in America. It was wrong when an Islamist extremist targeted a synagogue/school in Michigan a few months ago, and just as wrong today when these two lunatics targeted a Mosque/school. Parents shouldn't fear that kids going to school or families going to worship might not come home. Such places shouldn't need constant security. The normalization of such evil and hate only ensures further violence. Everything else is a different discussion.
From the Facebook page of Amin Abdullah, the security guard killed in the mosque shooting today

A California mayor just pled guilty to being a literal foreign agent of the Chinese government. She ran a CCP propaganda website disguised as local news. NBC's angle? The real problem is that reporting on it "reignited fears of anti-Asian discrimination." As an Asian American: accurately reporting that a foreign agent infiltrated local government is not anti-Asian. Framing it that way to suppress the story is. Using "anti-Asian bias" as a shield to protect an actual CCP agent from scrutiny is the most anti-Asian thing I can think of. It implies that Chinese Americans are so fragile, or so suspect, that we can't handle the truth about foreign espionage in our own communities. We can handle it. We're the ones most harmed by it. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/bac…

The US government should investigate all the Chinese usage going through Singapore

It appears Singapore is now #1 user of Claude in the world. GIC also led the $30 Billion Series G in Anthropic, by the way. Majulah. Singapura.

No one can match the IAF in aerial dogfights
It's worse than you think. The IDF has trained dogs to pilot aircraft. Fully 25% of the sorties against Iran and Hezbollah have been carried out by Belgian Malinois.

Branding and pricing and packaging for ant is so much better than OAI at the moment, although I don’t think that’s reflective of current product and models
Something I heard over and over while in LA for Milken was praise for Anhropic and pessimism toward OpenAI. At lunch, I made a comment referencing GPT. Guy next to me: "You still use GPT? Do you also still have a Hotmail account?"

They could actually become US’s most important ally if they’re willing to keep oil prices in check when the US needs/wants it
Exactly as I wrote: the UAE announced it is leaving OPEC. This is the right move—the UAE has the lowest breakeven price of all the oil producers and has been crippled by unfairly low quotas set decades ago. The question now is can OPEC survive without the UAE?

I am fascinated by @taalas_inc /fast follower ASICs. I’m curious if, in the medium term, if you know you have X capacity from your fab, and you care about scaling inference, you’d get way more inference capacity from your limited allocation with an ASIC than making GPUs/TPUs

I’d also suspect that, because latency would be 2-10x better, lots of people would pay a premium/demand would go even higher
