Looking forward to heading to Orlando tomorrow for SBC2026 and preaching for my friend Scott Wilson @FBCMelbourne, FL on Sunday. He’s a friend who “often refreshed me” and I pray I’ll serve his people well!
Our @baptist21 SBC 2026 preview is out! Just a note: we recorded several hours before @albertmohler announced the adjusted language to the proposed amendment but still discuss it thoroughly among other topics: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
An important update on the Truth & Unity Amendment to the SBC as we get ready to meet in Orlando. We need to get this done and affirm the convictional principles of the SBC.
Some are arguing against the Truth/Unity Amend. saying that since “pastor” means “shepherd” “shepherding” is something all Christians do rather than something connected to an Office (e.g. “fathers shepherd children, mothers shepherd families, believers shepherd one another”). However, as you can see from an old post, the NT reserves “shepherding” for a select few not just any Christian … @jdwredberg and I devote a chapter to this in our new book “What is a Pastor?”
Wrapped up another @pillarnetwork global conference in Edinburgh. 23 Nations represented. So encouraged by the brothers from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America who led our plenaries preaching through 1 Thessalonians!
“All-sufficient merit firm in life and death, The joy of my salvation shall be my final breath. When I stand accepted before the throne of God, I'll gaze upon my Jesus, and thank Him for the cross”
Very Good. 1) Addresses various titles. 2) Defines “function” (for the purpose of the amendment) as preaching in the main worship service. I’m in favor.
Important conversation to have, to clarify why Pillar exists, why affinity groups can be helpful to SBC cooperation, why affinity groups are natural under a broad confessional tent, and some cautions.
Take a listen to this week's episode of the Pillar Podcast!

EXCLUSIVE: California spent nearly $189 million to give every state prisoner a free iPad. We interviewed a dozen death row inmates, who told us that prisoners are using the tablets to watch porn, engage in x-rated chats, and groom minors on the outside.

Thrilled about Ben stepping into this role. He is a faithful pastor of a thriving church, a man who loves the confessional heritage and cooperative mission of the SBC, and one who will lead with the kind of clarity, courage, and charity our moment requires.

What a joyful, humbling week last week with the Akin clan celebrating Mom & Dad’s retirement. The word “grace” kept coming to mind… It is a great grace that we’re still so close—and that dad & mom finished this season so well. Also, glad we captured the photo before Ryland ran!
