The ocean is complex, to say the least. Conditions can be very different at the surface versus at depth depending upon how currents and water masses are moving over large scales. @SeascapeScience discusses the complexities in a new @islandinstitute blog: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

The workshop is taking place in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District. We opened the proceedings with a thoughtful letter from @RepChrisPappas, a true champion for strong science and environmental managements, outlining the importance of what we’re trying to achieve.

Things looked hairy at Buoy B yesterday, but measurements at the Jeffreys Ledge waverider further offshore, also operated by our partners at @UofNH, topped 30 feet yesterday! In fact, more detailed data from @CDIPBuoys show a single wave in excess of 15m - nearly 50 feet!

20 foot waves and 35 knot winds, gusting to over 40 - yikes! It’s rough out there as this Nor’easter blows off steam. As much as we all love the ocean, we hope everyone is warm, safe, and dry on land today! mariners.neracoos.org

By researching and monitoring sea level rise, tides, and coastal flooding, we can prepare for what’s to come in the not-so-distant future! 🌊 Visit gmri.org/flood-prep to access resources and recommendations for how to prepare for upcoming high tides.

Power outages reported across the entire forecast area due to downed trees and limbs from the heavy wet snow and winds. Storm is not over yet with additional heavy wet snow through the day. Stay off the roads if you can as tree limbs are still snapping! #mewx #nhwx

Decades of work by partners nationwide is at risk from proposed cuts in the @usioosgov budget, even as climate change reshapes the ocean & human uses evolve as a result. Make your voice heard so champions in Congress can preserve our essential services! cnn.com/2024/04/02/climate/o…

Holy cow! This week's weather kicked up some mighty big waves along the East Coast. Newer waves buoys set records, and even the old guard stations recorded wave heights that were only exceeded by Superstorm Sandy. We hope everyone stayed safe for the holiday season!

CDIP stations along the east coast measured historically large and powerful waves earlier this week, caused by an intense extratropical storm. Coastal inundation and erosion was widespread. This bulletin summarizes the complete data set available at cdip.ucsd.edu.
