Climate action should be "proportional and pragmatic", Sunak says. Excellent. In other words, given that we're facing the greatest danger humanity has ever confronted, we should be pulling out all the stops. Oh, turns out he means the opposite.

For those wondering, if the distribution was normal (hint. it isn't) and the climate was not changing (hint. it is.), then 6.4 standard deviations would correspond to odds of about 1-in-13,000,000,000 (1-in-13 billion).
Wow, just wow. The planet is breaking. Antarctic sea ice extent is the headline for me this morning. There was actually a net *decrease* in ice extent day over day, and it's mid-winter there, peak freeze season. Extent is now 6.4 standard deviations below the 1991-2020 mean.

Code Yikes!!! The planet is now at 15 consecutive days of record global surface temperatures, likely the hottest 15 days in the last 100,000 years. Also, today's global temperature of 17.114°C once again breached the Paris agreement, at 1.51°C over the 1850-1900 baseline.

The 15th consecutive hottest day on planet earth.. meanwhile in a London hotel the fire is burning. We deserve what is coming our way. Too many humans just don’t get it. Insane

With millions of properties to retrofit it will be really expensive for landlords and residents if it’s not right 1st time. With a huge skills gap in the sector it may be wise to focus on closing that first. ⁦@NetZeroCollect⁩ are doing the research in to how to decarbonise

This is recommended reading for those charged with developing a UK strategy for decarbonisation. For those of us without that responsibility it’s an educational must. Start right now and do it right from the start. ⁦@MichaelEMann

‘Faster and further’ A clear coherent and funded strategy would be a start.

‘Right now’. And we must get it right, right now #netzerocollective
“If we don't act right now... we lose the ability to have net zero by 2050." US climate change envoy @JohnKerry says the world's top 20 polluters – including the UK – which account for 81% of emissions between them must "step up" and act now @USAinUK | @ClimateEnvoy | @maitlis

Knowing that their organisations are building new homes that they know will need to be retrofitted in the future. Decarbonisation strategy must be at heart of asset management & development else it’s going to be a longer and more expensive journey than it needs to be.

Good to see Leadership from Shell highlighting the need to collaborate on decarbonisation. 3 times this week I’ve heard leaders say that we’ve done enough talking, now it’s time to act. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve also heard the same people admit to... linkedin.com/posts/carlosmau…
Looking forward to seeing how we can work together to make ambitions real. Not long before we can these events in full again!
