The NICE FIT study was awarded the @BJSurgery Prize by @ACPGBI yesterday.
This study was only successful because of a huge collaboration of researchers, and the generosity of our patients.

FIT can be used in pts with rectal bleeding. Still detects cancer, and not many more false positives. Data submitted for presentation @my_ueg in Barcelona from @nicefitteam@muti192.
Many congrats to joint @ACPGBI young coloproctologists of the year @Beccajfish and @drkatbristol -brilliant decision by the judges to award a joint prize and very proud to see these amazing standard bearers representing the very best of GB&I Coloproctology - well done to all!
@stevenbollipo , @nicefitteam@muti192 have researched the diagnostic accuracy of FIT in rectal bleeding in over and have submitted our results to @my_ueg for presentation in Barcelona. Surprising results, esp re: false postivity! #colorectalresearch
I am not sure but it makes sense that if the patient has regular minor anal bleeding, stool test may get a trace of blood. It doesn’t mean we ignore the test.
It’s Bowel Cancer Awareness Month! Every 15 minutes in the UK someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer. Young, old, female or male, it affects us all. This April we’re launching our new campaign #thisisbowelcancer shining a light on the varied and many people affected.
Without the results of @nicefitteam study we don’t understand the distribution of FIT in our symptomatic population. I would hope to use FIT to stratify risk and organise appropriately timed investigations in the future for these patients #colorectalresearch
I'm having a run of GP referrals of symptomatic patients having FIT testing. What is the point of screening a symptomatic patient who clearly needs investigations? Isnt it a waste of a test? @BritSocGastro@ACPGBI@rcgp
Brilliant and honest talk on available evidence on lights and shadows of functional outcomes of #TaTME by @debby_keller#ACM19
First longer term functional data on BJS!
FIT has diagnostic accuracy equivalent or better than colonoscopy for CRC. No morbidity, no time off work, no pain and it's cheap. There may be no need for colonoscopy in pts who are low risk, or asymptomatic.
