🚨 BREAKING: PCs letting unsafe bosses skirt rules, making workers pay OFL reveals the number of charges under the OHSA has dropped by almost half under the PCs. “Doug Ford lowers costs for unsafe employers, and workers are the ones left paying the price – sometimes with their lives,” said OFL president @waltonmom. Our thoughts and solidarity are with the seven workers who were sent to the hospital after a shocking gas explosion at a Toronto high-rise construction site this week. We understand four workers have life-threatening injuries and we await more details, with respect to the families. We also understand that those impacted are members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 27, United Association of Plumbers Local 46, and the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 353. Every worker has a right to come home to their loved ones safely. The workers on the high-rise construction site were not given that right, and we will continue to demand the provincial government provide safe workplaces for workers in Ontario. The Occupational Health and Safety Act – which requires every employer to take every precaution reasonable to protect every worker in the workplace – must be enforced. #Solidarity #onpoli #healthandsafety

2024 has been the hottest year on record but many of our schools aren’t built for heat. Without a plan, educators and students are at risk. That’s why today, my colleagues and I and the OFL announced the Workers Heat Stress Act. #onpoli #onted

The horrors unfolding in northern Gaza are the result of a completely unrestrained Netanyahu gov, fully armed by the Biden admin while food aid is blocked and patients are bombed in hospitals. This is a genocide of Palestinians. The US must stop enabling it. Arms embargo now.

The Ministry of Labour found over $22 million in wages owing to workers last year but only 5 prosecutions were initiated. Increasing the max fine isn't "Working for Workers" bc @fordnation does not use the tools at his disposal to enforce workers' rights thetrillium.ca/news/governme…

ON No searchable database(!). Prosecutions listed in provincial government media releases. It's unclear if all prosecutions are listed here.

Migrant workers who grow grapes for @PellerVQA wine want you to see how baking hot their employer-provided housing was this past week. Studies show neg health impacts after sustained temps of 26C, yet millionaire companies look the other way when it comes to workers' safety.

1. The deaths of SaskPower workers Scott Bill & Cole Crooks is devastating. As Douglas notes, the recent court decision SHOULD be reviewed by employers, supervisors & workers where people are working at heights (10' or 3 meters). @SCSAonline #canlab An injury prevention 🧵
If anyone finds themselves working with fall arrest equipment as an employer or worker, you would be well advised to read this recent case. Beware the “but for” issues in this fatal case. R. v. Saskatchewan Power Corporation, 2024 SKPC 12 (CanLII), canlii.ca/t/k4h1h
