There are over 5 million Canadians of Irish origin.
It’s one of our founding nations: see the royal Harp of Tara on our coat of arms, and the harp & shamrocks represented all over Parliament Hill & our national institutions.
Irish & Canadian history are closely intertwined, from Canada being the primary refugee of Great Famine emigres, to the troubles spilling over in the Fenian Raids, the central role of Thomas Darcy McGee in Confederation, and so much more.
Canada played a large role in the Irish Peace Process.
Ireland has gone from being the poorest to the richest country in Europe (after micro state Luxembourg) in three decades.
Ireland is the 8th largest source of investment in Canada, with a stock of investment at ~$25 billion.
It was one of the strongest and earliest supporters of the Canada-Europe Trade Agreement. Irish leadership is importantnin efforts to get final ratification of CETA.

June 6 is always a day of remembering for me. My Dad was there with the RCN as an able-bodied seaman landing troops on the beach. He was 21 years old & turned 22 six days in: The same age my son is now.
And while I was in Japan last week I was able to spend a day in Hiroshima.

Took a minute to see the pattern. But the answer is 7 because 6x7=42 then add a 1 and you get 43. Same multiplication of the single digit outside numbers with the centre 6 and then add 1 to the result and you get the other four numbers on the outside ring.

👇 As great as they were at crafting original songs, some of my favourites are the covers they did early on. "Baby It's You" & "Anna" are 2 greats in particular. In fact, the #Beatles version of Anna is better than the original IMO.

This scene from Goodfellas always reminds me of the long-gone Puccinis restaurant on Main Street near the viaduct. It was my Dad's favourite. We always entered through the back alley & then through the kitchen (even though there was a front door on Main). Did I miss something?

I've inherited 4 plants that a friend of my wife couldn't accommodate after the friend moved: One hydrangea and 3 rose bushes. Next step will be to replant them in bigger pots.

Perfect day for overdue garden cleanup. I started this clump of variegated ivy from a small piece I snipped back around 2018. I think it's from a clump growing in front of the Naam restaurant in Vancouver. Growing plants from cuttings is a great way to expand a garden.

Post winter springtime yard and garden cleanup begins anew. My cat seems oblivious and just wants me to let him into the house and his food dish.

Visited my friend Bob in Richmond this afternoon & stocked the orchard with ~300 Mason Bee cocoons. This is one of 2 nesting boxes I've got there, but I'm going bring a third, bigger box for the orchard with more cocoons soon.
