.@Virginia_AFLCIO statement: "We are disappointed that collective bargaining isn’t in the budget, but we also know the budget negotiations aren’t over with. We are willing to work with everyone to ensure collective bargaining for public sector employees gets done."

Notable that the House budget did not include anything by way of advancing public sector collective bargaining, which like cannabis was a vetoed bill that has been part of the budget conversation

I asked LaNoral Thomas, president of SEIU Virginia 512 about this, and if in hindsight labor went too hard on Spanberger in a way that hurt its chances with the budget.

Thomas: "If our response to the veto made her not include CB in the budget it's again disappointing and not a reflection of the work we did with her prior to the election." Thomas said she's yet to hear from Spanberger. "We're still open and look forward to negotiating."

BAE is based in Falls Church
I am proud to stand in solidarity with unionizing BAE Systems shipyard workers in Jacksonville, FL. Their campaign is more important than ever after the tragic preventable death of one of their coworkers, Anthony Elrod. BAE must respect their constitutional right to unionize.

Skilled workers and talented union tradespeople are fundamental to our competitive advantage. Right now, as demand for electricians, pipefitters, and builders to fill open jobs continues to rise, we have the workforce to meet the moment. Google's investment in these training programs is the kind of partnership that can help close the skills gap, keep our Commonwealth and our country competitive, and connect our workers with the tools they need to succeed in with good-paying, family-sustaining careers.

I asked Warner if he plans to support the Faster Labor Contracts Act, which just passed out of the House on Tuesday with bipartisan support. Warner said he didn't know much about it, but it seemed like a "pretty darn good bill."

Martz asked Sen. Warner about the state budget talks. Warner: "Virginia's earned its reputation as the best state for business. We need to maintain that, and I don't think we should go back on our word."

ICYMI: In a rare moment of bipartisanship, the House passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act to accelerate contract negotiations between newly-unionized workers and management. I voted yes because once workers unionize, they shouldn’t have to wait years for a collective bargaining agreement.
My Faster Labor Contracts Act has passed the House! Newly unionized workers shouldn't have to wait years for their first contract. I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together to take this enormous step – now let's finish the job:
