👏 THANK YOU, @Rep_Grijalva for introducing the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act in the U.S. House! This critical bill works to repeal Trump’s federal voucher scam from HB1 and reinvest in our local communities. Public funds belong in public schools — it’s that simple🍎

NEW: Public schools spend $700 billion a year. Tech companies, private equity, and Wall Street all want a cut. They get it through revolving-door relationships with school administrators, and kids pay the price. We dug into it.

Teachers already have to work second jobs and pay for many of their own supplies. Trying to squeeze them for profits means making all that worse.

OUR CLOSING MESSAGE--the billionaires backing Michael Bennet and funding attacks against me have an agenda for him. As Attorney General, I have taken on irresponsible companies and the Trump Administration--and am winning. As Governor, my only agenda will be to fight for you.

NEW: Have you heard of i-Ready? It's in a THIRD of school districts. The company behind it makes $800m/yr revenue. Kids are often required to use it for 90 min/week, or more, and they hate it. It doesn't count toward grades. Teachers can't see a student's answers. Schools are paying millions for it hoping to improve their state test scores, but critics say there's no proof it works. My latest @NBCNews story digs into the controversy around one of the most commonly-used software products in education today

The NAEP proficiency myth NAEP proficient is not synonymous with grade level.  NAEP officials urge that proficient not be interpreted as reflecting grade level work.  It is a standard set much higher than that.  Scholarly panels have reviewed the NAEP achievement standards and found them flawed.  The highest scoring nations of the world would appear to be mediocre or poor performers if judged by the NAEP proficient standard.  Even large numbers of U.S. calculus students fall short. As states consider building benchmarks for student performance into accountability systems, they should not use NAEP proficient—or any standard aligned with NAEP proficient—as a benchmark.  It is an unreasonable expectation, one that ill serves America’s students, parents, and teachers–and the effort to improve America’s schools. brookings.edu/articles/the-n…

If children not reading at grade level by grade 3 is a crisis, why aren’t children born into and still living in poverty by grade 3 also a crisis worthy of new policy?
