Staggering that the NYT reports Trump/Miller are plotting to suspend habeas corpus (i.e. end the constitution) & by the end of the day it's treated as a non-story, not anywhere near top of major news' outlets websites.

I went to the Mix in the Castro, and they collected my photo and ID data without me knowing. Gazetteer's Cydney Hayes investigated. Turns out, it's part of a surveillance network, and some worry about a corporation having "lists of gay people" in 2026. sf.gazetteer.co/why-do-these…

Very important point: SoftBank was pledging *all* of its OpenAI stock (worth $60bn on paper) to get a $6 billion margin loan. Banks turned it down due to concerns about the value of OpenAI stock. Banks clearly do not think OpenAI is worth $852 billion. tradingkey.com/analysis/stoc…

The mayor and Bilal Mahmood are pausing their tax cut for the rich! Obviously they're hearing what we're hearing gathering signatures: people think wealthy speculators should pay their fair share. missionlocal.org/2026/06/sf-…

Saikat Chakrabarti is offering 3-5 weeks severance pay to the 200 workers (!) on his campaign. That’s truly commendable. As time passes people may not remember this congressional race, but your workers will remember how you treated them.

Mayor Daniel Lurie’s approval ratings are high because cable news stopped broadcasting crime panic stories in San Francisco. Data shows little to no change in crime & homelessness. But people’s perceptions have changed in the absence of 24/7 propaganda.

The crime panic stories have ended. But Lurie has also worked hard to influence people’s perceptions. He changed the way homelessness is counted in the city in a bid to manipulate data in his favor. He also paid ~$1 million to a PR firm to help him generate positive press about his tenure. Did crime fall at rates greater than before? Not really. But the DA routinely overcharges people to boost her own tough on crime persona while jails swell out of control. It helps create the perception that “something is being done” to the satisfaction of wealthy residents.

Property crime was down by 32% in 2023. Violent crime was down by 24% that year. In 2025 under Lurie, property crime was down 27% while violent crime was down only 18% The rate at which crime fell actually slowed down under Lurie. But that’s not people perceived crime in the city in those periods. 2023 crime numbers: cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/new… 2025 crime numbers: localnewsmatters.org/2026/01…

This headline says it all: "A nonprofit keeps 95% of clients out of jail and in court. San Francisco Courts want to kill it." And not just kill it. Steal its entire budget (and then some) & hand it over to armed probation officers instead. Outrageous. sfstandard.com/2026/06/08/no…

Saikat’s fans are liking my post 😂 Mayor Lurie is running charter reform measures in Nov to stop leftist ballot measures like taxes on the rich by raising the vote threshold requirement to win. That’s what Nate has signed up to run.
Some good news: Nate Allbee who just directed field for Saikat Chakrabarti has been hired to run Mayor Lurie’s charter reform measures. 😍😍😍

Our city leaders want to give the rich a massive tax cut during a budget shortfall. Coincidentally, the mayor wants to implement steep cuts to essential services for the poor. Straight out of Trump’s playbook.
Bilal Mahmood is pushing a tax cut on multi-million dollar real-estate sales, part of a package to incentivize new housing. But it would cut taxes whether you built housing or not. And he now says that he’s open to changes. missionlocal.org/2026/06/san…

So the dead internet theory has come for our elections, eh? Seems like what goes viral on here is increasingly disconnected from how people actually perceive value. Would probably be fine if not for the dead local journalism theory, the dead broadcast news theory, and so on.
