Student engineering 🦫 We had a great time supporting @OregonState Senior Capstone students as they showed off their projects at the OSU Engineering Expo, including TrackIR 3D Asteroids, where players fly through space using a single button to shoot and their head to control the action. The students also tackled projects in markerless control, lens validation, and drone-based calibration for motion capture spaces. Really impressive work from the next generation of engineers. Even Benny Beaver showed up to help! Having an R1 research university just a few miles from our Corvallis headquarters is something we don’t take for granted. We’re proud to collaborate with OSU and support students doing meaningful, hands-on engineering work through our continued partnership.

What if calibrating a large motion capture volume could be as simple as launching a drone? As part of Oregon State University’s Senior Capstone program, this student team explored a new approach to automating OptiTrack calibration in large or difficult-to-access spaces. Using a drone, custom 3D-printed components, SLAM mapping, and automated flight paths, the project points toward a future where complex tracking environments can be calibrated faster, safer, and with less manual setup.
