Tough week for the kids in Ipswich. Lax team had to forfeit a state semifinal game. @DefendingEd

Wow ! What are they afraid of?
NEW: The Mellon Foundation gave $1.5 million to establish a "center for the defense of academic freedom." In audio I've obtained, the group's leader says his goal is to undermine the newly launched classical civics centers: "map who these f---ers are... and knock them out." 🧵

Schools need to rethink the influence of accreditation and stand up for their school's true purpose. There is an opportunity cost to allocating so much time and so many resources to DEI. While each school should evaluate its unique priorities, one area that may be a better use of resources is AI strategy. Maybe parents have finally realized what’s going on. It’s about time they spoke up. parentsunite.org/post/is-qua…
Enough parents allegedly complained & pulled kids out of the most expensive private school in RI, Moses Brown, that it rescheduled its Pride event to an optional, after-school time. "student-led"

But parents are sending a different message: they want more educational options and more schools focused on learning. These people are “stewards of the communication arts?” They want to “decenter book reading and essay writing as the pinnacles of English language arts education?” Wonder why? 🤔

“Stop introducing harms to kids.” Let children be children and respect their development. Thank you @AbigailShrier
🎙️The indomitable @AbigailShrier on parenting, therapy, and iatrogenic harms. True, studies show when schools implement mental health screening programs, lo and behold, they *identify* mental health *problems* :- “But I would say that a lot of the problems with young people in the last generation are problems we introduced. We need to do less of that. Gender ideology was not something 6th graders were gravitating toward. Not until we pushed it through every school. So we need to stop doing that. And the same thing with therapy and with medication and diagnosis of young people. We brought in mental health professionals, and lo and behold, they found diagnosis everywhere they went. We need to stop introducing harms into the lives of kids.” @CityJournal @ManhattanInst

A university is not a mirror. Students do not need a better-lit reflection of themselves. They need exposure to people who know things they don’t, see things they miss, and may even be wrong in useful ways.

“Protest, in its current campus form, is a luxury good. It requires leisure, safety nets, and the confidence that walking out of your own graduation will cost you nothing.”
Hot take: Gen Z is actually pretty great. The NYU walkout everyone's talking about? 36 students at a $ 92K-a-year school. The coddled, fragile, woke generation is a media invention built on Millennial data and elite campus anecdotes. The real Gen Z story is unglamorous, which is why nobody tells it. facultyleaks.com/p/nyu-haidt…
