#inktober2023 11) Wander. The astonishing Happisburgh footprints . Made c900,000 years ago by a group of adults & (wonderfully) children walking along mudflats on what is now Norfolk. These ephemeral traces of humans are the earliest footprints outside Africa. Mind blowing.

At my latest count it was 12 known arrivals, followed by 11 disappearances, starting about 900,000 years ago. The present phase started about 11,700 years ago, but even that involved many further arrivals..
