Agree that surveys are problematic, but so can customer interviews (eg intention-action gap). Good fodder for hypotheses but always need to observe real behaviour.
When used to obtain customer input, multiple choice surveys are shallow and derivative at best โ€” and at their worst they can be annoying and counterproductive. s.hbr.org/3av0cmZ

Spot on! Woolworths digital pricing doesnโ€™t leave sufficient space to emphasise the per unit cost, so weโ€™re left with the big, scary aggregate.

What we say weโ€™ll do and what we end up doing are very different. For brands, the danger is listening too closely to customer feedback. Like in this example from GLAD, makers of cling film who introduced a โ€˜new & improvedโ€™ version of its product that backfired.
