The bureaucracy feedback loop, green card edition: 1) overcomplicate the process 2) “we don’t have enough staff or resources!” 3) get more $$, grow 4) goto 1 Breaking this feedback loop is one of the great problems of our age.
Here's what out-of-control bureaucracy looks like. The Green card application today (all those pages on the left) v. 2003 (those 4 pages on the right). Understand this: We got no new laws during this time. We just got new bureaucrats cato.org/blog/uscis-has-adde…

The problem is the way in which the policies were introduced, seeming to retrofit around Elon's views on very specific situations. Basically "central planning as overfitting": radicalxchange.org/media/blo… Good policy should be decided behind veil of ignorance first, applied second

Musk’s urge to humiliate his enemies (reporters, libs etc) and his countervailing desire to be praised and liked will be in deep tension for as long as he does this.

I think every ad impression coming online in streaming services makes run-of-the-mill programmatic inventory (whether video or not) worth *that* much less. Streaming ad inventory is raising the bar for all of digital advertising. It's brand-safe, it's viewable, etc.

The mirror image of "why is rent suddenly so high" is "why is rental housing suddenly a great investment". Conveniently, mega-landlords like Blackstone are obligated to truthfully disclose this is in SEC filings and public statements, and they are 100% crystal clear about why:

One of the strengths of the YIMBY movement is it delivers insights that can be embraced by people from both parties.

Why aren’t we building more housing? Youngkin sees three problems: 1) regulatory burdens that restrict the supply of buildable land 2) permitting complications that delay & prevent developments 3) restrictive land use controls which limit property owners’ rights to build (4/7)

This is what California is able to achieve with both hands tied behind its back. Imagine if they repealed CEQA and implemented the full YIMBY agenda for housing.

It’s time to face the fact that we have way too much “community input.” @JerusalemDemsas is killing it on this beat. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
